Sloppy ITV1 Wales idents

I know this has been raised in other threads, but it's so hideous, I think it warrants its own topic of discussion.

As we know, Presentation in London adds the Wales legend to the ITV1 logo live as it goes out. But why is it so badly aligned to the logo?

Yep, it does look poo. Also it looks especially bad when the ITV1 logo disappears behind some of the action, and the Wales bit doesn't.

Incidentally, have there been any sightings of English regional names yet, or have they finally bitten the dust?

That doesn't bother me as much, the Wales bit not disappearing as I understand it's easier to overlay it live. But at least make the positioning a bit less slap dash.

Of course, cynics would say it's deliberately badly done in order to excuse when they get rid of it completely.

Surely it can't be that difficult to play out a complete separate ident, with the word Wales properly edited in, whilst keeping the same live network voiceover. GMG North managed it fine with 4 separate idents each time. It would seem a bit more professional than a cheap, misaligned overlay.

I have heard there are only four (with another two in production). There's also a Wales specific version of one of the idents, and the obligatory "sombre" version.

At the very least, ITV could overlay a full ITV Wales logo, at least if they did this the disappearing behind the action wouldn't happen, but it would fix the alignment issue and wouldn't have the obvious problems detailed above.

What do you mean? The one played out before regional programmes I guess?

Well I think if they cant do it properly they should just remove the word Wales from the idents. It looks awful as it is at the moment. We rarely get Wales mentioned by the announcer anyway as we get the network annoucement 95% of the time.

Im all for Wales having proper regional idents but do it properly or not at all is my opinion.

well they are trying to cut down on their regional commitments, it's a shame really nice idents but it looks silly in Wales.
