I would have liked Sky1 to have news bulletins or news updates at the end of the hour like it used to, to make it a flagship channel like BBC One is. But Sky wont want to simulcast something you can even see on freeview!

Could they not just repackage some of the Sky News red button content? I'm sure one of the feeds is a short news bulletin updated every half hour or so.

Copyright straps on idents. Oh dear.
I bet it's on the trailers too - ITV have one when advertising Harry Potter movies.

That announcer sounds really flat, where's the dynamics in his voice?

It's Johnny Pitts who also did a bad job on the final incarnation of CDUK.

That announcer is always making mistakes, when announcing the headlines on the sky1 sky news updates on day he constantly said duchess wrong.

Probably more Warner Brothers' doing to be honest.

How ironic that just as Sky1's programming improves tenfold, it's branding gets worse.

Why are no Irish channels available in the UK. Over hear we have all the UK channels except Channel 5, ITV1, 2, and 4. Which all could be accessed through the other channels menu.

Because while UK channels can easily afford the additional rights to broadcast to an extra 3.5m people, no Irish channel can afford the additional rights to broadcast to 65m extra people. That's essentially what it boils down to.

If Irish channels made themselves deliberately available in the UK market generally, they'd be competiting with UK broadcasters in the film and imports market and would not be able to afford the rights any more. (Northern Ireland gets overlooked). As for UK broadcasters, both BSkyB (and most other satellite broadcasters) and Channel 4 deliberately clear rights for ROI, while the BBC doesn't broadcast a large amount of imports in any case. I think its generally accepted by most rights holders at this stage that if they sell rights to a UK broadcaster it will be available in ROI too. If its not officially recognised, Its overlooked. But rights holders would not be able to overlook in opposite direction. UK broadcasters wouldn't let them.

I am so dissapointed with sky1, their presentation standards have just dropped so low.. so quick. The copyright text in the glee ident just makes it look terrible.

I could not imaginged two years ago that this would be the future of sky1's idents

Were these Glee idents made for Sky One or are they seen on other channels around the world too?

It wouldn't surprise me if they were for Sky One. They had that woman who was also in The 40 Year Old Virgin referencing British people watching on Sky One, so they probably got the promos in while they could.
