I think that if Sky want Sky1 want to be thought of as a 'main' sort of channel, they should show Sky News Sunrise on the channel.

I think they should show Sunrise, Live at 5 (or what it was), Sky News at 10 and Murnaghan

They did show Sunrise at one point, when Holmes first came to the programme. However, they stopped simulcasting it, for whatever reason.

I would have liked Sky1 to have news bulletins or news updates at the end of the hour like it used to, to make it a flagship channel like BBC One is. But Sky wont want to simulcast something you can even see on freeview!

I'm sure it was simulcasted on Sky Onc (that era) for at least a year. During the late 1990s they used to have 'Newsbreak' which appeared hourly between 9am and 5pm on weekdays which always came from the Sky Newsroom, they were quite a novel idea, but considering they haven't been on the channel since 1999 I doubt it'll ever reappear. They did show Good Morning Sports Fans for a while between 6 and 7am bizzarely.

If a major news event was to happen, I'm sure they do simulcast Sky News on Sky One, the last time that happened was July 7th 2005, if not a banner to tell viewers to switch to Sky News would almost certainly appear.

They wont simulcast when Sky viewers watching Sky1 can watch Sky News so only a banner will ever appear. Freeview viewers don't get Sky1 but they do get SkyNews so again no point simulcasting either. A banner to redirect viewers will be required because its higher up the EPG incase viewers weren't aware of the news.

That'd be why the Sunrise simulcast stopped. You're right, it was pointless with Sky News being available to everyone who can get Sky1 and Freeview viewers as well.

Why are no Irish channels available in the UK. Over hear we have all the UK channels except Channel 5, ITV1, 2, and 4. Which all could be accessed through the other channels menu.

Well, they are available but encrypted. It is still on the Astra 28.2 satellite so if you could un-encrypt it then you would be able to watch them. The only reason the UK channels are now FTA was when Freesat launched. That's why you can also get Channel 5 on Sky (without a viewing card) via 'Other Channels' as there is a Channel 5 stream for sky and one for Freesat. Another odd thing is when Freesat launched all the ITV regions were FTA, now, some are encrypted so certain older Freesat boxes display the wrong region for the postcode of the box.

BBC and ITV removed their encryption several years before the launch of Freesat.

Channel 4 and ITV made a transponder swap at some point in 2008 to make room for all the regional variations of Channel 4 and Channel 4 +1 on Astra 2D, which meant some odd regional variations of ITV1 were moved to one of the Europe-wide transponders.

And therefore meant that they became encrypted. Its only around 5 regions that are not FTA but its still odd how it was set up.

Here is the new Glee ident that aired today at 9pm, presumably there will be more idents featuring different characters. IMO - Does not have anything to do with the main idents. There is no consistency with sky1's branding anymore...

That announcer sounds really flat, where's the dynamics in his voice?
