Worth noting here that Sky1 promoted the Lady Gaga concert they showed last night as being on 'after Britain's Got Talent'. I know its not the very first time a broadcaster has done this but it still seems odd to me.

In what form? Live CA or some kind of recorded promo?

It was a standard promo, 9pm After Britain's Got Talent was written, but I think verbally the time itself wasn't mentioned. The first time I saw it I caught the end of it so thought I misheard, but they showed it again during the time that Britain's Got Talent itself was on.

Bugger the time - BGT is on ITV1 so why would Sky1 be mentioning it?

To make the association in the viewer's mind between Britain's Got Talent and a programme that is quite likely to appeal to them also.

For the same reason a smaller company might advertise themselves as being opposite Tesco. It's not really promoting Tesco because everyone already shops there, it's just to help you remember where the shop is without going into detail that you might forget. In a similar vein, Sky appear to have chosen to advertise Lady Gaga's concert as being on after BGT because the target demographic already watches BGT and it's just easier for them to remember.

It's a shift in Sky policy though - which is why it's extraordinary. Maybe Sky are becoming more lenient.

ITV tried it once, promoting (I think) Corrie as being on after Eastenders.

Quite unusual, but then again haven't Sky still got their share in Sky - something like 17.5%, though they were supposed to reduce it to less than 10%, but I never recall that happening.

Sky sold off some of its shares not too long after being ordered to do so. I think they still have about 7%.

I've noticed recently on Sky1 HD that the DOG seems to disappear around 15 seconds into certain programmes.

I think the other Sky channels are doing it, too. Really can't complain.

This is currently being done on all Sky-branded entertainment channels (Sky 1/2/Living/Livingit/Atlantic), for all programmes.

Sky Living +1 and Sky Living it +1 have still got permanent +1 DOGs.
