Compare the Sky supplied publicity shot used on The Guardian site...

with how it really looked...

One year, they repeated the September 11th coverage on Sky News Active. You could see the top of the burnt in tape counter on the bottom of the heavily zoomed in picture. If Sky News Active couldn't get the original footage, it makes me think it probably doesn't exist in their archive.

I've got the Sky News 20th Anniversary book, and all the screengrabs in that to illustrate stories have recreated graphics such as the picture above.

For printed works, graphics are usually re-created because of the difference in resolution.

It seems Sky Bet and Sky Poker are coming with the new look

Although not technically branding, and I'm not too sure whether this is fully true, but it does look quite real, and unsurprising but it looks like Sky Picnic could be back on....

Also why when they show screen shots of Sky News do they always have straps that have been added after. The one about the Wold Trade Center did not look like that at the time.

News channels and programmes record their output clean of captions so they can reuse the material - reusing (or selling) it with graphics isn't very useful.

There will usually be a low quality off-air recording made for compliance and so it can be checked back if need be, these days this is usually done digitally but not so long ago VHS loggers were standard

Interesting bit about that for me is the "Sky Sports News" logo under the pay-channels section.

Does that just refer to programmes via the Sky Player or is this whole services called Sky Player?

Could this just be an elaborate hoax by someone with too much time on their hands? I might be wrong, but I can't help feeling there's something a little fishy about this.

Also worth noting the TERRIBLE design on that image. The larger boxes are the smaller ones stretched, look at the corners, and the way the text falls off the edge of the 4th box. I call BS.

New Anytime + service out later this year. Got this in my email. The service is free using Sky Broadband but if you want to use wirelessly you must buy an adapter.

The Sky betting channels are now using the new logos (on their website at least)
