The lack of consistency shouldn't last long, since new Sky logos for Sky1, Atlantic etc. should be introduced later this year

Still, maybe I would've left the Sky Sports logo intact (while adopting the graphic and name changes; which I must admit I like), since there's nothing wrong about the current style.. I would hate the current Sky1, Sky Arts and Sky Atlantic etc. looks go just because of a Sky's wim
They're some of the best looks they had in years

It’s sad to see the current looks for the Sky Entertainment channels go - the presentation was largely improved with what Sky Creative has worked on.

Sky1 arguably gained back its brand personality in the idents - and the Sky Atlantic/Arts presentation is as ever, excellent. All of the above would be welcoming in retaining for the new look this autumn.

I dare say that Sky Living would need a good step up with its branding seeing how unremarkable the current idents are, and the former & Sky Atlantic desperately need some variety in their idents.

They could take out the Sp part of the channel name to make it look better. They removed the Movies (or 'Mov' as it was) part of the channel names when they re-branded years ago so not sure why they haven't done the same for the sports channels.

Then you would have "Sky Action" being confused with the "Sky Action" of the movies section.. it's a matter of consistency, you can't have "Sky Sp Action" only for this one, in order for it not to be confused with Sky Cinema Action and Adventure

But surely it comes down to common sense too? People who find the Sky branded channels in the 400's know they are the sports channels because they regularly watch them and know they'll always be there or they have selected Sports on the guide. The chances of someone randomly coming across Sky Action on 407 and putting it on and thinking "hey, this isn't a film, it's some sporting event" are going to be quite, quite low.

They could keep the Living, Arts and Atlantic idents and just change the logo animation, couldn't they? Same can't be said for Sky 1 though as the 1 is an integral part of the animation, so that one is definitely changing.

As much as I like the Atlantic idents they seem a little like interim branding, I wouldn't be sad to see the current pres go.

I will be sad to lose the current Sky1 look as its the best its been since the 2008 idents, hopefully they match or better the current look when it changes.

I do like the current Sky Atlantic look, but I always preferred the 2011 launch idents that mixed british scenes with american scenes, they suited the channel perfectly and I loved the music.

Sky Living lets just not go there, such drab uninspiring idents, it really is the poor uncared for sibling of the Sky entertainment family, hope they sort the channel out.

To think, in the days of analogue cable and satellite, people had to make do with four symbols to identify the channel.

It could be simply changing the logo over, but keeping the same animations.

Sky is planning a huge EPG shake-up next year, from Broadcast:
Quote:
Under the proposals, Sky will bump broadcasters’ HD channels up the EPG, replacing their standard definition services. In turn the SD channels will be moved into a dedicated part of the EPG, in the 800 range.

I hope this only applies to HD subscribers.

I don't think non-HD subscribers (I am one of them) will be very happy about having to go to the end of the EPG to find the SD channels.

It seems like they could be doing this to try and get more people to subscribe to the HD channels, but it could backfire and result in them losing subscribers.

I would imagine that for SD subscribers, it would be all the HD channels that would move to the 800's so they aren't cluttering up the EPG just as much as the SD simulcasts won't be cluttering up the EPG for HD subscribers any more.
