It's not looking good for Sky Living and this rebrand news neglecting Sky Living makes me even more curious... is it closing down, have they got something else entirely planned for it or is it going to be Sky 2'd?
The social media accounts for Sky Living have now been dead for 18 days.
Hugely unprofessional if the channel isn't closing down.

But I thought the idea was to have pan-European channel names/logos/idents to allow for savings on branding costs and make it look like a more unified conglomerate (as with the movies/cinema rebrand).
Sky1 works for both the UK and Italian versions - if you go to Sky One, then Sky Uno has to remain as that, which isn't what I had expected. I had thought it would eventually be brought into line with the UK branding.
However, having said that, maybe the UK is being brought into line with Italian branding. It probably doesn't take much additional work to change the letters in the logo once you've put together an ident brand package.

EDIT: Maybe this rebrand will be the chance to either smother Sky2 for good, or turn it into something else. It has some good programmes, but is buried away on the EPG 11 places behind Pick, which was formerly Sky3.
Though it does make sense to bring it in line with the other channels that have a worded title rather than a numeric one.

Germany do have a Sky 1. If Sky in the UK were to bring the rest of the channels in line with Sky Sports, surely Sky Deutschland and Italia will follow suit?

Perhaps Sky 2 and Living are going to be combined into a single channel that focuses on more lifestyle/female skewed programming. They didn't give Sky 2 a HD version because it wasn't needed, they have had plans in place to close it or merge it with Living and were just waiting on the re-brand of all the channels to do it. Whichever brand survives, Living or 2 then it will already have a +1 and HD variant in place.

Would it potentially be rolled out onto sky news
A friend at Sky has hinted that the new look seen with the Sky Sports rebrand will be rolled out across other channels, starting with Sky Atlantic and Sky1, with the latter set to lose the ‘1’ (again!)..

But was Sky 2...?
Sky Living is certainly among the lower case, flatter logos I've seen

Indeed they do. I'd forgotten they had launched that in November 2016. It currently uses the UK branding with the numeral rather than the word, but oddly enough they refer to it as "Sky One" in English when announcing the channel name. Very odd!
If Living & Sky2 merge, then I suspect they would keep the Living brand, as it's more widely known.
