When Sky's carriage deal with UKTV ends I'd imagine they'd make Dave, and possibly Eden and Good Food FTA. The latter two have particularly bad ratings which makes for an entry to Freeview feasible, but only when there's enough capacity.
Sky have been constantly reviewing the value of several channels in its pay packages due to the increased cost of Premier League rights, leading to some channels going FTA. Also they are in it to make money out of multiple sources of income, such as NOW TV and FTA (Sky have pledged further investments in its Freeview channel Pick). Real Lives lacking the Sky name is significant in that two of its sister channels (Pick and Challenge) are on Freeview and have no reference to the Sky brand, making it most likely to go FTA - I'd imagine that the three slot threshold Sky have on Freeview should be increased for them to add extra services on the platform.
Is it me or are Sky trying to devalue the operations before it gets taken over by 21st Century Fox. We might blame the footy rights for this.
They have slimmed down the Sky News operation with newscasters leaving/redundant and the switch to the new studios . They have dropped many third party channel operators from the Sky's pay line up like PBS America, TV5Monde, The Box music channels and some of UKTV Freeview channels. I think that maybe why more of the UKTV pay channels have or may join Freeview.
From what I've seen from Edinburgh International Television Festival, Sky was in the sidelines which made me think they might be working on major revamp of Sky 1 schedules to become a serious competitor to BBC One and ITV.
