https://skyepginfo.co.uk/Firmware/SkyPlusHD.php suggests only the Thomson boxes were not on-demand capable, it didn't have a network port on it which may have had something to do with it. Presumably it had some stuff pushed to it over the air via Showcase, but had no way of getting anything else as it couldn't talk to the outside world.

The Pace and Samsung boxes are listed as on demand capable.

Thomson did have network ports, Sky never switched them on.

The boxes were dog slow and only had on-"demand" over satellite. i.e. box records stuff overnight.

Wasnt this the box with a component out, I think some took advantage of this and recorded content to a capture card and onto an extenal hard drive, later boxes of course dont have this.

Yes, when I first got HD my TV only had component, no HDMI, so I connected it up through that connection. You could also record from it. It was good while it lasted. Sky switched this off some years ago.

Some new Sky Sports presentational elements are slowly rolling out.

There is a new promo format, utilising the smoke effects seen across some recent promotions. I would also expect a new ident style in the near future. Logo's are staying the same.

I think the football graphics have had to be redone for UHD - don't whether there is a new design or not however.

Guess we'll find out next weekend.

These are the graphics that are also used on some promotional bits on Sky Sport Italia, but with no such ident to match.. prob. in the UK it'll be different though

The only thing I wish Sky would do now is update the Sports logos with the proper corporate font like they have for all their other channels. Gone are the customisations for Living, Atlantic and Movies. It's about time they did the same for Sports too. Still using a modified version of their old corporate font from the late 90's is just stupid. Oh, and get rid of the HQ part of Sky Sports News' name. It's bizarre and silly.

I don't mind the Sky Sports logo, although I think the 1998 look was timeless, it shouldn't have been ditched for the corporate version.

I disagree, I think it looks very much of its time and wouldn't work now.

That was the era where the Sky channels all had individual logos that looked nothing like each other or the Sky corporate logo, although that uppercase "SKY" was common to all the channel logos.

Sky Sports News HQ is a silly name though, and smacks of an abandoned attempted to rebrand the channel. With the move back to 406 the "HQ" should go.

A quick and very dirty mock of the current Sports logo and what the proper corporate font version would look like. As the letters are not as wide, it would actually make the DOG's a little smaller I think.

Sky Sports News HQ is definitely a very silly thing, probably even sillier than the Skysports.com-like rebrand many years ago
