Sky might rebrand Sky2 soon, as seen here on Media Boy Blog:

I'm pretty sure they've had surveys in the past relating to new channel names which don't ever appear. I think that was the source of the Sky Bravo rumour at one point?

Yes, they also had one for a potential renaming of Sky Arts a while ago, which never happened.

I seem to recall it was a web address registration. Regardless, I think something needs to be done with Sky 2. They were able to rework Sky 3 into a Freeview shop window, but Sky 2 has neither the benefit of being FTA or the benefit of having premium content on it. It's not exactly as if Sky 1 is so crammed with must-watch programming that a secondary channel is required, which was the original selling point back in 1996. It doesn't really have much use.

^The current Sky 2 isn't the same one that launched in 1996 - that one closed after a year with National Geographic taking it's spot on Sky analogue. So they've actually closed it down and then relaunched it once before. What was the selling point for the current Sky 2, when it launched as Sky One Mix?

To be able to watch shows you might have missed on Sky One later in the week ISTR

I know it's not the same as the original Sky 2 but they both had similar motives. Sky One Mix was, IIRC, bits and pieces of what Sky One aired, hence the name. I remember them showing Gamezville back in the day, so they didn't dawdle in not living up to their aim. I suppose their original content has improved since the Sky One Mix days, but with them pushing their VOD service, it doesn't seem necessary for a channel for catching up with as VMPhil suggests. Although that didn't stop 4Seven, I suppose...

I'm amazed Sky2 is still on air, it seems to be forgotten about by Sky, it's been moved down the EPG countless times, it's not even in HD. It'll be interesting to see what Sky replace it with, or how much first rate content of any form they're willing to put on this channel.

The draw of 4seven was supposed to be that it was based around social media, but to this day I think the only element of that is putting viewers' tweets at the end of and start of breaks during programmes

They should change it to Sky Classic or something like that, show old stuff.

Yes, that really was missold. They tried to say viewers would dictate the schedules but that has never been the case - indeed half the time their much talked about programmes only get limited repeats (sometimes just the one) and sometimes on the night it aired on C4 anyway, so if you do miss it you do have to catch it online.

However despite it being a repeats channel I do find myself using it more often than I thought I would - will usually see if something is airing their before going to All4.

I've seen some of these surveys, and Sky Bravo wasn't the only name suggested for a new channel.

I don't think there was any specific mention of it being a replacement for Sky2 either, although I agree it seems to have lost its way over the last few years (if it ever really had one). Razz
