Though it wasn't called that for a while after the Sky merger, the 1991-93 identity was just called "The Movie Channel" with no Sky branding,
Though I never got the "Sky The Movie Channel" thing..

The wasn't as specific Sky Movies 80's as Sky Movies didn't exist then. So they instead rewound through previous Sky Movies idents.

Not entirely true, it existed for the last 11 months of the 80s! Maybe they could have used the basic ident that they used for the first few weeks after launch: http://hub.tv-ark.org.uk/dsplus/m.php?p=skymovies_1989.rm
While we're on the subject, I've got some Sky Movies continuity I uploaded to YouTube in the past few days, that I got from some of my late aunt's videos:

Very blatantly so unfortunately, no Sky Symphony jingle alas. Though I never got the "Sky The Movie Channel" thing.
It was a leftover from the BSB merger. Took them a few years to switch to the singular Sky Movies brand.
It was more than a few - it took them FOUR rebrands to do it! I never understood why it didn't become Sky Movies 2 when the 1993 idents came in - and certainly when the 1995 tombstones were introduced. Instead it didn't happen until 1997.

BSB's negotiated rights with a/some distributors were for The Movie Channel specifically. 8 years seems a plausible amount of time for such rights to last.

Promo for You, Me And The Apocalypse on Sky1 using the new Sky1 logo. At the beginning of the promotion a new animated version of the logo with a much smaller '1' is used.

I don't like it. And the '1' in the logo used at the end of the trailer isn't centred which looks odd.
I think the flat logos look much better on screen. Not everything has to be 3D or embossed or glossy.
they also need to sort out their on screen graphics, some channels have the +1 part of the DOG in the other corner which is stupid and excessive, whilst on others they have the luxury of the DOG disappearing altogether and some where the DOG stays on all the time, is bright and not tight into the corner so can be obtrusive. Consistency isn't their strong point.
