There is another way they could do it - have the ascenders and the descenders run off the logo slightly, not too much as to make the letter unrecognisable, but enough so that the logo itself stays fairly similar to the last one, while encompassing this new lowercase fad.

For example:

When you see them like that I think they work really well.

It seems to work better with the Sky Sports font, rather than the Sky Uppercase font...

It seems this is not just a beta logo however, as Sky Sports showed a 2010 cricket promo, and it featured a new Sky Sports HD Logo...

Mind you, saying I don't like them is a bit premature I think - when I first saw the current Sky News logo I absolutely detested it but i think it works really well now.

Time will tell I guess.

Well I am looking forward to seeing it in use day to day on sky sports, but the mis-alignment of the sky logo and the uppercase SPORTS is my issue, but over time I may get used to it, but that's not the same as liking it...

That's what I can't get past too. The application of depth does improve it but the text misalignment just seems sloppy and above all lazy, a trait I wouldn't usually associate with Sky branding which leads me to believe that this logo is a stop-gap and another rebrand isn't far off...

...or I could be completely wrong and the explanation is that they hired the same team who did the BBC Two refresh.

Could it be that there there wont be any major changes to the brand identity until they move into the new Sky Sports Centre?

Just seen the Sky Football 2010 promo, set in a garage, and they have the old, uppercase logo on that one.

13 pages on a 'Y' turning into a 'y'. I bet not even Sky's designers spent this long chatting about it

What else would you have us talk about in a Sky re-branding thread?

That's not the point I was getting at.
I'm just amazed that such a small, virtually insignificant change has generated so much discussion
