Pretty sure it was lowercase and it was different shades to that; had a textured overlay too, but not the ultra-glassy one they currently use.

Ah right. The mention of square corners just brought the old logo to mind, and I have seen outdated logos used on adverts before (it occasionally happens on BBC2 ads, for example).

Sky Living has started to introduce program specific idents. The idents use a new logo formation and use common music during the slow motion sections of the sequence. Overall a bit of an improvement over the sitting room idents. As always videos can be viewed at Sky Idents.

All TV Branding seems to be boring and dull for the past 4 years now. I have all but lost interest in it

No imagination, that's why. It's almost always live action footage with a logo slapped on top.

Not just 'any old video/logo': but both costing a fortune thanks to some consultancy's media-speak which convinces the cheque book holders that they're actually buying something relevant to the viewer.

Agreed, my interest is now in sports presentation and production and news presentation, but idents don't fascinate me anymore, its usually the same as many people have suggusted live action ident and slap a logo over the top.

There are some exceptions, the Sky movie channels have great idents for example.

They used to. The problem with the current ones is there's no variety. The spotlight idents differed from time to time. Nothing ever beats the 90s idents though. Almost all of those were almost cinematic-level.

The 90s all-round seems to have been the peak for idents at least in the UK

I think that's an odd thing to say; Sky's branding in particular was a load of crap until the late 90s.

Things have been a bit stale recently (notably there has been pretty much nothing from the BBC in absolutely ages), but I think the ITV rebrands were all pretty good this year. Sky's have taken a rather dull turn but I'm sure they'll do something interesting before too long.

I disagree. The first Sky Movies ident was the epitome of sitting up off your chair and going, "Oh aye, what's this?"
