So BSkyB are now in cahoots with HBO (Atlantic), DisneyABC (Sky Movies Disney), ParamountViacom (Comedy Central), A+E Networks, as well as in the past providing content for ESPN UK and also taking content from ESPN USA.

All seems very cosy.

Suffice to say they're a major broadcaster then? Newsflash.

HBO is just a content deal like any other, and I suspect it is the same situation with Disney. The others are remnants from partnerships made in the mid-90s.

A very nice new CGI Sky1 ident has aired during Got to Dance Uncut, featuring blue solids!

Certainly a lot nicer than the "random programme clips with a logo slapped over the top" idents.

It's better but I always get the feeling that their idents were made very hastily like it was a last minute job.

Does anyone know why all the original idents from the new look were scrapped? (pool, park etc)
I quite liked those, so much better than the rubbish programme specific ones with the logo just stuck over the top.

They were scraped once they introduced the 'Channel of the Year' idents. The new idents are purposely lacklustre, the channel director Stuart Murphy doesn't want it too be seen as the big shiny US blockbuster channel anymore. All the new idents are for homegrown shows. Even the big US shows like Arrow, Modern Family, Glee and The Simpsons are no longer promoted and have had their idents withdrawn to give off the impression it only cares about homegrown shows. Hopefully this changes when Adam MacDonald takes over.

If they don't want Sky 1 to be seen as a home for US shows, they should move them to Sky Atlantic or Fox, or just relinquish the rights. But they're not going to do that. Stuart's logic is seriously flawed.
