Fox News Channel said it was the top-rated all-news network in the second quarter, topping rival Cable News Network in primetime for a second consecutive quarter.

FNC pulled a 0.7 Nielsen Media Research rating and 436,000 households, jumping 40 percent in ratings and 83 percent in households from the second quarter of last year. CNN's 0.6 primetime rating was flat with last year, but the network jumped 12 percent in households, averaging 483,000 homes.

Both CNN and FNC posted 0.3 total-day ratings for the second quarter. But CNN, which counts more subscribers, averaged 254,000 households compared with 213,000 for FNC.

MSNBC finished third, averaging a 0.4 rating and 247,000 households in primetime and a 0.3 rating and 177,000 households in the total-day period.

But MSNBC boasted that it continues to have the youngest news audience. The average MSNBC primetime viewer is 50 years old, compared with 59 at FNC and 61 at CNN.

In the adults 25-through-54 demographic, MSNBC said it jumped 18 percent in delivery to a 0.13 rating and 100,000 households compared with CNN's 0.1 rating and 96,000 households and FNC's 0.1 rating and 81,000 households in the same demo.

In the business-news battle, CNBC boasted that Business Center topped Lou Dobbs Moneyline by 25 percent, but CNN said Dobbs -- who rejoined the network in May -- is chipping away at CNBC's lead.
