Alex you won't have seen this but on Dubya's 100th day in office there was a cartoon in Times2 with him saying I HAVE A DREAM and a thought bubble with America and the world going round it.

P.S.
Why does world news tonight call itself that when it's like the 6 on the beeb?

But at least you have 3 full news channels!
I really wish ITN would do a full hour bulletin, ITN doesn't get the credibility is deserves with just 15 min news.
CNN strikes me as being like Sky, with the familiar presenters and male-female partnerships and the better coverage of breaking news.

I can't think of a comparison to BBC News 24 although I suppose it would be MSNBC if we are talking ratings.
Some Fox News graphics were used on Sky the other day as they were broadcasting something from Fox and they are huge!
The live DOG filled up about 1/4 of the screen, horrible!

Aren't two of the Fox presenters married?
Brit someone, is it Hume or Hulme?
And obviously his wife... Mrs Hume?

There is always a lot of attacks launched on Fox in CNN chat rooms, which I suppose is to be expected but they really go for it, are they scared of Fox?
I know it's beating CNN in the ratings war, most of the time, but that is just the name of the game really.

Alek, how much Sky News is featured on Fox News?
When I was in NY I remember seeing quite a few Sky reports on there as well as a link to London one day, is it common to see Sky News reports/reporters on Fox? And do you think that helps them much?

The US news stations either like international feature packages or MidEast violence.

I don't think the UK elections even got a mention in some programmes!

Even with its faults, CNN domestic gives the impresssion of less laid back than Fox on Breaking News. The Fox main NY news set doesn't have a newsy feel about it, whereas as CNN's gives more of an impression that they are more news geered.

Your right on the fact that most world news stories feature either the MidEast, Oil, some US military situation overseas, or a presedential trip.
The UK Election just got a few lines in the newscasts. It was very pathetic.

Fox actually breaks news very well. They were the first to have a short animation/music for their 'Fox News Alerts'. (Sky copied them on that one). Fox frequently breaks most of the news a few seconds before the rest of the channels. MSNBC is usually last. When they break news it is very serious.

It must be something Murdoch does then, if both his channels are the fastest!

What is Fox's breaking news animation like?
Sky's looks pretty neat, with the red bar stretching across the screen and making one hell of a noise in doing so, it then zooms out and flashes up the text.
Sky copied the 'Election Alert' from Fox which worked really well, they could just flash up an aston really quickly to tell you what was happening.

Personally, I don't think you can really compare any of the American/British news channels. British news is far more professional and serious, no matter how laid back it may seem to you.

Fox really launches most of the attacks. They are relentlessly aggressive in promoting themselves. They recently got an exclusive interview over the missing Washington intern thing and you never heard the end of it on FNC. It's really immature. They openly criticise CNN on the air (they don't even touch MSNBC, it's too 'below' them). Shepherd Smith is the worse. He always puts CNN down. It really makes me mad for them to be so ridiculously childish. The other channels never criticise eachother on the air.

There has been less and less Sky News on FNC. They have a few reporters in London and they'll take their reports (of course). They did tie into sky for the Concorde Crash - I think that's the last time they did. I don't think they even went to Sky during the UK Election. However, if they do feature any reports from UK news nets, it is from Sky. Both MSNBC and CNN use ITN. I know CBS either uses ITN or Sky (sometimes, mostly ITN though). ABC, as you all know, uses the BBC.

Brit Hume is the Washington Bureaux Chief. He's also the presenter of 'Special Report' a political news show featured at 6.00 pm ET on FNC on the weekdays. His wife is a producer at Fox News Washington. Hume used to by ABC's White House Correspondent. He's also the most conservative journalist on TV (not commentator, journalist). He even gave a speech at the Republican National Convention - in front of every American TV net. He was punished by FNC, but not very harshly since their in the Reps corner (even though they pretend not to be -- which really irritates me).

And on the subject of serious breaking news.
I will never forget Bob Friend on Sky News Today stopping and saying 'But some serious breaking news just in...', which instantly got my attention.
They switched to the shot of the two presenters and Anna looked very confused and then Bob said 'news reports coming from France tell us that someone has just sat on the eternal flame in Paris and suffered a severe burnt bottom because of it'.
Anna was in hysterics for a short while until she asked why it was so serious to which Bob replied, 'Well we need to inform people not to sit on eternal flames, they don't go out.... ever'.

Very very funny, but it got no mention anywhere else!

That is hilarious. They often get into hysterics on CNN (Fox and MSNBC use, for the most part, single presenters) - unfortunetly it's not always very funny.

Fox's 'News Alert' animations has two variations.

The first, lasts about 2 seconds. They screen is white with a type of globe revolving on it (in the centre) for a fraction of a second, then you get a 'ding' of a deep bell accompanied with a formation of the FNC logo, then something spreads across the bottom of the screen, which almost instantly turns into the Fox News Alert aston.

The second version, also lasts about 2 seconds. it's only featured during the daytime Fox News Live programme. I've only seen it twice, it's very new. I don't know what the initial animation is, but the aston is on the side of the presenter instead (like one of those 'windows' that the ITN NC uses). It pretty much coveres the half o the screen. At the top of the graphic is Fox News Alert and then the rest of the graphic has the text of the event. If the report goes to pictures, the bottom aston usually comes on. When these News Alerts are given, they usually are presented from the newsroom (no the studio) by another presenter (not one that is presenting the story currently). It's a pretty good idea actually.

Why do CNN and MSNBC take news from ITN of all providers.

Surly Sky and BBC provide better reports, or are ITN cheap?

I would have expected Fox to take Sky's coverage of the Milosevic thing.
That was very well covered by Sky, and considering they have the people at the key places across Europe, I doubt Fox would have had them in the Balkans and The Hague.

I know that when I saw Fox they had the weather man out in NYC, why I don't know, but they did!
And after the report he said 'You wouldn't find this on CNN'.
It did strike me as quite shocking actually, you never hear networks attack each other on air, even though in 1999 Sky and the BBC had a really serious fight with each other, but it never went on air.
It is childish but then again... it's typically Murdoch and typically Fox.

Sky because their part of News Corp (which owns Fox). I don't know why they don't take from the beeb. There may be some exclusive partnership between the BBC and ABC - or ITN could just be dirt cheap. I don't really know why they use ITN?

Because ITN is featured on CNN so much many Americans think that we favour ITN over here, whereas the viewing figures suggest we like the BBC One News a lot more!
