I remember Sky One and Sky News rather well promoted their 10th Birthdays back in February 1999 (I'm getting old now to remember that) and Sky Sports promoted it's 10th Birthday in 2001.

Although 1989 is the year Sky really took off and got attention from the media and the public, Sky Channel had been on air since 1982 and heck even the Sky One name wasn't introduced until about July 1989.

I don't know, but slightly off topic, I emailed Channel 4 to find out if they have any celebrations planned for their 25th this November. They replied saying they have yet to make any plans and thank you for their birthday wishes.

Not too sure on the 18th but on their 15th they did. A brand new The Last Resort was made, they repeated episodes from the Comic Strip, Don't Forget Your Toothbrush and had 30 minute programme looking at 15 years of Channel 4 including the infamous red triangle to warn you of any naughty programming which was a good trick to get the viewers in! All of this was shown during Christmas 1997.

They also did many special events for the 21st Birthday.

I think for most stations the special milestones are 10 years, 21 years, 25 years and then any year with either a 0 or 5 at the end.

Really? From what I remember for their 20th was that nothing was done and on their 21st I think it got a couple of mentions and an episode of Countdown where they got a special cake given to them at the end of the episode that was broadcast on the nearest to November 2nd.

I seem to recall S4C~ pushing the boat out for one of them.

On the subject of birthdays, does anyone know if channel 5 are planning anything for their 10th birthday next month?
