interesting point raised by an Express sports person on Five Live tonight, he was talking about getting Des back and said that he thought the BBC would be better going for Gabby Logan as she would have more potential and I was wondering whether they would go with Matt Smith who is seen as a rising star too.
Also I think its pretty certain that MOTD will be on at 10.30, no other time really worked, they won't try and move it to prime time cos it just doesn't work (ala ITV) and I think people are generally happy at it being on BBC One at 10.30 and then repeated on the sunday morning.
Its funny how these things work isn't it, one minute the BBC loses alll their sport to ITV and then slowly they get them all back leaving ITV with very little.

I don't know why they need to 'go for' anyone. Just as when Des moved to ITV Bob Wilson ended up getting sidelined, if Gabby Logan moved to the BBC, it'd be Ray Stubbs getting pushed out in the same way

Football is our national game and there needs to be urgent changes to broadcasting legislation to ensure terrestrial channels get the Premiership matches. Either that or a deterrent directive under which Sky could have the rights, but games must be free to air.

I think the Premier League did say that Sky can sub-sell games - so it would be nice for them to allow the BBC to show the occasional live game as well.
Perhaps as a "not available on Digital Satellite" idea - so Sky Sports show it live - as BBC1 does on cable and terrestrial ?
Maybe some matches may be sold to the Freeview version of Setanta?

A good point was made earlier, Sky may find it difficult to show 138 games! I see no reason [and strangely enough I havn't read the contracts] why Sky counldn't rent out certain games to other channels. It'll depend mostly upon how they market the deal.

Yeah he was, he read the sport on Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Radio One and he did a show with Katy Hill I think on BBC TV.

I'm sure it will end up back on the BBC...then again when you have billions of pounds of licence payers money that you can throw about without any regulation (apart from the governors!) anything is possible isn't it?

Is there a realistic chance that by this time next year Sky may have simply created an extra sports channel, so you have SS1,2,3,4 and Extra? I get the impression their existing ones are getting increasingly congested, and I don't think they could get away with just sticking some of the matches on an interactive stream.
Would be interested to know if in the agreement they have to provide coverage on channels that are distributed by other means, ie. cable TV, or whether they can keep certain games exclusive to their own platform.

It was last time the football rights were done (3 years ago?) that the BBC went through its bad patch and lost loads of top sporting events. But they are now getting them back, full six nations rights, premiership highlights. Who knows what will be next?
As the BBC said, next year will be a top year of sport what with the Olympics, Premiership highlights, Euro 2004, Six Nations, Wimbledon etc all on the BBC.
