Is Sky Travel slowly turning into Sky One Lite ? Some of the programming, especially at weekends and evenings seems to be stretching the "Travel" remit somewhat.

I suspect it's a way of getting Sky One onto Freeview via the back door, they even showed Carry On Films a few weeks back.

Some dubious Sky Travel programming :

Temptation Island
Australia Uncovered
Baywatch Nights
99 Things to do Before You Die
Hollywood Pets
24 Hours in Soho
Naked Angels in Beach Paradise
Hollywood Confidential

Isnt that the long-term plan for Sky Travel on Freeview anyway ??!! ie turn it into a mainstream entertainment channel....!

I thought that too, they've just got a problem acquiring secondary rights for their more popular shows - surprisingly distributors aren't that keen to give them as part of current packages

This probably sounds really stupid, but a clever way they could've used is by styleing the channel in zones. They'd put something like "House Sitters" in the Lifestyle zone etc.

According to BARB the old Sky Travel would get about 10,000 for it's top programme. Now it's changed it gets about 50-60,000. You right it's not exactly a travel channel. But then when do any of the Sky channels do what they say on the tin? Challenge shows Celebrity Bloopers for example.
