According to the latest Licensing Update from OFCOM, Sky have been granted a new license for a service to be known as Sky Three. OFCOM Clicky

What is going to be on the new service? Personally, I'd like to see a 'Gold' service for Sky programmes and catchups but not a Sky|Mix style station.

Thoughts?

There was a Sky Two once and that didn't last long (It probaley fell in the Sky swamp with other dead channels along with Sky Scottish and Sky Soap)

I imagine sky mix will be renamed to sky two to create a family of channels

There has already been quite alot of discussion on this subject on DigitalSpy. Interstingly - there is no longer a licence for Sky Two, bu perhaps this was "morphed" into Sky Mix when required, and so could be changed back again.

There are also alot of other channels which companies have licences for which they don't use, perhaps it is merely a way of ensuring the name is for their use only (alittle like buying up www domain names, just in case you want to use them in the future - or to stop anyone else using them Shocked )

I wouldn't say that this is an inidctaion that sky have any plans for another enternainment channel just yet. Very Happy

It better be. Sky Mix is literally just Sky 2

Any indcations as to what this channel will have to offer? I am imagining it will it join the extremely long list of satellite channels to offer next to no or no new material whatsoever, and just showing endless repeats. Willing (and hoping) to be proved wrong though.

Thats just it, there are too many channels, and all of those just show repeats, should this really be allowed? I mean should UKTV be allowed all 10 channels, plus numerous +1 channels, which 99 percent of their airtime are pure repeats. Surely more and more channels cannot keep growing, with hardly no one watching them, and they will get less and less money from advertisers, meaning less home-grown programmes, meaning more repeats? There is not enough people in this country to be watching 400+ channels.

Do you think there should be a limit to how many channels a company can have, or infact a limit on the number of repeats of any one channel?

Why should a limit be set? If a channel is not financially viable then it will close.

Would you want the same limits for magazines? There are lots of magazines and more launch all the time, some get very few readers. But they all exist quite happily - the ones that don't do well close the ones that do continue.... it should be just like TV stations

Yeah, UK Gold these days have their repeats which were shown no less than 5 years ago.

They should introduce a UKTV Plastic channel for the really crappy stuff such as Only Fools and Horses, Fawlty Towers, Dad's Army (If fact all British comedy which get shown heaps if times so much that it will destroy the recordings) and Born and Bred.

Having recently had cable installed (instead of my limited DTT offerings) I can honestly say I love all these +1 channels.

Long may they continue.
