Also, it is rumored that the Sky+ box will become the free entry level box soon, which will really hit Virgin Media, as the only way they can compete with it is to make V+HD their entry level box, something I don't think they will do.

Makes sense really, apparently Sky are stopping providing normal Sky boxes soon, so everyone will get a Sky+ box. Not much point having a seperate charge if that is the case

I wonder if they're going to ever give their installation partners strict instructions to use the co-ax cable that's joined together so your effectively just running one cable rather than the two!
I moved into a house with a sky dish already there and arranged to get it upgraded to Sky + for nothing, the second cable was run a different way than the second one!

I installed my Sky+ box myself, attaching a second dish to an outhouse, so it technically doesn't need plannig permission! Dual coaxial cable and a quad-lnb can be bought on eBay for next to nothing.

Great news!
I've got a Sky box at the moment but I would like Sky + if it came subscription free. If I replace the Sky box with the Sky + one any idea how much installation would cost?
Thanks

There's also been a rumour in the last week, and I STRESS the word RUMOUR, that they're discontinuing production of "ordinary" Sky boxes and you'll only be able to get Sky+ or SkyHD boxes in future.
That would add weight to the subscription removal rumour, if "ordinary" Sky becomes no longer available and Sky+ the, de-facto, norm.

What would they call it? Would it still be called a Sky+ box?

I imagine they will drop the plus branding.
