i got a letter through this morning confirming that my sky subscription has gone up in price; now £43.50 i think to most people this is quite a lot of money and i think there has to be a point (fairly soon) where you say, hang on, this is too much.
i don't if its my memory playing tricks on me, but sky movies has got pretty bad in the last few years, showing no where near as many "premiers" a lot of what is on there at the moment is a fairly small catalog of stuff which seems to go round and round in rotation for what seems like 6 months.
and the "original" programming on sky one doesn't even bare thinking about... brainiac is about all they've got haven't they? whenever i take a glance through it's either that, the simpsons or some other import.
how much would sky have to rise to before you would consider cancelling?
Whatever happened to the premium entertainment channel Sky were planning to launch, along the lines of HBO, with original programming and all that? Would be nice if Sky One could branch out into some decent homegrown programming, surely if it's successful it'd pay for itself by selling it to other countries and all that. We can dream I suppose.

If I could get cable I would! But my area doesn't have yet!
Although I only pay £15 at most! ( £10 – right now because sky wanted to keep me)
Yes the movie channels have gone down hill!
£35 when I through, it too much, so I cut the sports and movies, sky is becoming a joke.
Anyway, you get Better film on the New Free film four
i was thinking of starting a thread on here relating to the decline in the quality of Sky Movies. It seems that since they decided to scrap the separate 'Premier' and 'Moviemax' strands and go ahead and market it as 'Sky Movies' as a whole, that's its become a bit pointless really.
no doubt the subscription price hike is down to the new football deal struck this year.
I got the letter over a month ago, we've had poor service from Sky for the entire time we've been with them. We've really tried hard to contact Sky, my only option is to just stop the direct debit from my account, because each time we've called to change to a smaller package, they've said "yes OK, its done", but still I'm getting all the channels and being charged more and more. I really can't be arsed with it anymore.
I have to say, i'm going to go on the defensive a little here on behalf of Sky, because of the recent launch of their broadband service.
For most people, it's Sky vs NTL Telewest. The television service charges are pretty much identical, but of course it is now possible to save a packet on your internet if you switch to Sky's broadband service.
We switched from NTL to Sky last year, but have since retained our NTL broadband service. Now, switching to Sky broadband will save us £20 per month.
I, like others, have been fast becoming very critical of Sky's rising prices, but overall, the broadband offer more than compensates for that.

I think Nick Harvey expressed it well in the other place:
Nick Harvey on Metropol24/7 posted:
I just wish they'd charge a fair rate for the broadband for those (including me) who want it; and reduce the charges for the television chanels or mobile phones or whatever; and stop cross-subsidising.
There's no such thing as a free lunch. The broadband is costing somebody something, so it'll be getting passed on to the end user by some indirect means or other.
Sky do have very poor customer service when it comes to reducing/cancelling your package. At the end of the day you always have a legal right to cancel your Direct Debit (as long as your 12 month contract has expired) and Sky kust have to cut you off. They will threaten legal action against you but it will not proceed as you have not done anything wrong.

The Sky Movies Channels are in rapid decline, and I don't believe there is much of a future for premium scheduled film channels. With cable offering 500 movies on demand any time with full control (ie. pause, rewind, ffw), PVR's becoming more prevalent, DVD's cheaper and free film channels such as Film 4, the scheduled structure of the same films on a continuous cycle on Sky Movies is fast becoming outdated.

I wholly agree. I had the movies package for about 2 months before I thought "hang on, there's nothing on that I actually want to watch" ... "seen it, seen it, seen it, seen it, seen it...".
I'm on the (I think) £21 package, which, considering it was £13 when I signed up in 2000, is rather a lot for what I get. Considering reducing my packages, getting rid of the likes of Style, Nickelodeon and Discovery and keeping just the likes of Gold, Paramount and MTVs.
Then again with E, More and Film 4s being FTA on freeview anyway I may ditch Sky altogether soon.
