I have a Sony Bravia tv with built in freeview that has channels for sky sports one and two. To get these channels do I still need to buy a topuptv freeview box or can I just buy a card? My research points me in the direction of needing a topuptv freeview box even though i have freeview built into the tv and the card slot is only for the espn channel. Am i correct in this please? Confused

The card slot you are using for ESPN is providing TopUpTV, as they provide the conditional access service for ESPN.

However, to receive Sky Sports on Freeview, I think you will need a BT CAM (conditional access module) or a BT Vision box, as they provide the service, not TopUpTV.

EDIT:
After a little more research, it seems that the BT Vision card for Sky Sports will indeed work in the slot you also use for ESPN/TopUpTV. However, the card needs to be authorised in a BT Vision box before you can use it, and every 60 days to keep it active.

So I need a BT Vision box? Once authorised by the Bt Vision box could I use the card in another tv? for example if i visit my fathers house i could take the card and view sky sports there even though he has no Vision box?

Apparently you can, as long as it's inserted into the BT Vision box every 60 days for a confirmation signal.

The cards are not 'paired' to a particular box, in the same way as Sky or Virgin cards with their boxes.

Ok here's my situation.

I have BT Broadband option 1 10Gig £7.99 per month and BT line rental at approx £12per month. Total £19.99p/month.

I would like to have sky sports 1&2.

BT's offer to me.

BT Vision tv including sky sports 1&2
BT Broadband option 2 40Gig
BT Line

Total cost £30 per month + £40 one off fee and £10 for sports viewing card. I have never had BT Vision before is this a good deal? I particularly like the idea of being able to use the viewing card at another address/tv. Opinions please.
