Wonder if a Sky PL channel though might piss off other sports who've sold their rights. Should be priced accordingly too so the price of the PL channel reflects the billions it costs.

They do need to do something to look at their model. A 14% drop in viewing figures for Premier League on the Sky Sports channels was reported last season.

Sky are pointing to increased take up on Now TV offsetting that decline. So it seems shorter term, targetted subscriptions may be the model going forward. Surely it will reach a point where you can pay for certain sports / games or even teams ?

They need to look at their presentation, the premier league presentation package is awesome, maybe they should ask PLP and bring in some of the presentational elements to their coverage, when I had Sky in 1994 watching the premier league felt special, the theme tune, the build up, these days it just feels like another game.

And why would that be?
Because Sky Sports also have as well as the Premier League, the Championship, Football League 1 & 2, Scottish Premiership, La Lega, Erividise, Chinese Super League, MLS and internationals..

Where as years ago, the Premiership was the main draw. Showing football nearly every day during the season, from the main leagues or the obscure ones, is over time going to dilute the appetite and enthusiasm for the viewer.

It's one of the reasons why Sky Sports started giving the major games in the Prem nicknames last season.

I agree with getting more PLP content into both UK pay tv rights holders coverage.
I know we get the PL lions head logo on some of the BT Sport replay wipes, but I'm really surprised that PLP haven't asked Sky and BT to use its score and time on screen graphics for UK live game coverage.

Do agree - Skys graphics have been around quite a while now and do look a bit tired, especially compared to the refreshed BT.

However it is saturation rather than presentation which is costing viewers.

I think the last minute or so of this fabulous Mitchell and Webb sketch is appropriate here:

But otherwise... yeah one can have too much of a good thing as has been shown with a 14% drop in viewership.

As good as confirmed for the rebranding of the channels. It appears Sky Sports Arena will be home to rugby and tennis.

Silly question is the presentation changing? or will it just get rebranded?

It appears Sky Sports Arena will be home to rugby and tennis.

After a few years it will then be renamed Sky Sports Drama due to low ratings.

Also wonder if this marks the end of the heavy bevelled glass backed astons/graphic design, into a more simple and flatter style that BT/Eurosport/ESPN have gone for recently.

Considering the scale at which Sky has been planning these radical changes at Sky Sports - looks likely. I’d see new idents being produced, and the surrounding presentation changed, but the logo wouldn’t be changed much.

As for these changes - it’s great to see them become reality; if it helps in reducing prices for Sky Sports and giving customers more choice.

I'd like to hope this will also be an opportunity for NOW TV to have another look at the Sports passes, especially the monthly passes.

Wouldn't be surprised if they finally put the generic font on them, having recently got rid of the individual styles used by Sky Arts and Sky Living. The current Sky Sports logo is based on the OLD generic font.

Unless they're planning on changing the entire design of all Sky logos, that's the only change to the logo I can see happening.
