It appears that Sky in Ireland are taking the line that no they're not changing the price structure, that we should be grateful that we're not having a price increase for the two extra channels Sky are magnamionously providing us with.
Now I can understand to some degree why they are going down this route. Cricket is a niche sport in Ireland and not a subscription driver. Golf would have more fans but too many would happy to drop. And while F1 remains on Channel 4 and Eir Sport many might be tempted to drop Sky Sports F1.
But right now, someone in Ireland who only wants Premier League will have to pay in real terms double what someone in the U.K. does, for the same channel from the same company. You can talk about different VAT rates and cost of doing business and the like, but the average football fan will just see a 100% price difference and find it hard not to come to the conclusion that Sky is profiteering here.
