I wouldn't rule out Sky1 being used from time to time. There was a spell a couple of years ago when the Champions League was occasionally shown, as was a Premier League game, possibly a final day tie. I think there was a Rugby Union match shown not long ago either.

This is getting into a bit of educated guesswork, but going by the advanced schedules, it would appear 401 becomes a sort of premium counterpart to Sky Sports Mix, showing the best of what's on Sky Sports - the mooted Main Event channel then? Be interesting to see how this is priced (a bonus channel included with any package?)

Then there's the question of where Arena slots in - my guess is that it will replace Mix on 407, with that channel moving to replace Sky Sports 1 SD on 409, and the latter - or whatever it ends up being called - getting bumped to a lower slot down the EPG (and tbh as a swapped HD channel it doesn't particularly matter where it ends up)

The fact that the "unchosen" Sports will end up a bit down the EPG, whatever option is chosen, shows that from hereon in Sky's focus in acquiring rights will firmly be on football, cricket, golf, and F1. Other sports - you'll have to fight for space on an Arena channel that will be overcrowded on day one.

Would be the ideal opportunity to dump the SD channels completely. Surely most subscribers now have Sky+HD or SkyQ as standard.

I only have Sky Sports in SD, find the quality of them is pretty good compared to many other SD channels, so couldn't justify paying extra to have them in HD.

Sky Sports SD is 704x576 compared to the rest of sky which is 544x576 rubbish.

That's an interesting one. I'd have thought the opposite would make sense.

In Australia Foxtel absolutely kills the bitrate of the Fox Sports SD channels so their product looks really bad in SD, in order to force more people upgrade to HD.

So what happens to Sky Sports Mix?

It'll be interesting to see that what extent, if any, the Premier League channel takes on any of the PLP look - though the PL might be happy with having their logo on screen the whole time now. There's what appears to be some shots of the new look in the background of this article - seems the white is out.

Tiered pricing also announced, for the U.K. at any rate.

So the two football channels are being split between Premier League and everything else, Action and Arena are for everything that doesn't have a dedicated channel and Main Event is for "the biggest live events from across our channels - available to customers with the full range of Sky Sports channels".

Sky Media Centre article: https://corporate.sky.com/media-centre/news-page/2017/new-sky-sports-line-up-gives-customers-more-choice-and-channels-at-the-same-price-and-individual-channel-packs-for-the-first-time

According to the article... "Sky Sports Main Event channel hosting the biggest events in one place" ...I wonder whether is means that channel will effectively replace the (Sky Sport) box office.

Also worth noting on that article "Sky Sports News and Sky Sports Mix for all Sky customers". I'm assuming from the logos that Sky Sports News is loosing the 'HQ' from it's name.
