So, er, rumours.

If a HD logo is realased it would probably look something like this: http://i1351.photobucket.com/albums/p794/edmundhobbs/Sky-Sports-News-HQ-HD-logo_zpsee01b984.png

No, it would have the News HQ bit in blue, not red.

And personally, I think the move to 401, bumping the other Sky Sports channels down one, is stupid. All it'll do is confuse people. People will end up tuning into Sky Sports 2 for an event that's live on Sky Sports 3, and then wondering if the previous programme overran or something. At the moment, Sky Sports 1 is on 401, Sky Sports 2 on 402. Now it'll be Sky Sports 1 on channel 402, which doesn't make as much sense. Sky Sports 1 is the flagship Sky Sports channel and really should be first in the Sports section of the EPG.

Love the new set, but the name is only slightly less riddiculous than Skysports.comTV. The "HQ" will be dropped in time though I'd imagine. I'm not too bothered about the new EPG numbering since it's what UPC has had for years (though in our case it's Setanta Ireland that's been on 401).

Wonder if the original idea was to call it 'Sky SportsCentre', but then wondered how long it would be before ESPN/ABC glared at them in a menacing manner..

Another silly idea from Sky though. Hope they improve the side and lower third graphics and they don't keep freezing as often as the current lot do.

If they must move Sky Sports News HQ HD SD 2D 3D to the top of the list of the sports channels on the EPG, surely it'd make more sense to put it on channel 400 so all the other Sky Sports channels remain in the same place.

Even " Sky Sports HQ" would have been more sensible.

More pictures of the set (renders and real) here,

Number and naming issues aside, the studio does look quite impressive. The channel was in need of a lift, both in terms of presentation and content and hopefully this change will address some of the issues.

In terms of the set, it looks like its in one of the big studios on the ground floor of Sky Studios rather than being built where the previous SSN set was (on the 3rd floor within the newsroom I think). Raises the question why they needed to use the secondary set since January if the new set is not located in the same place as the old one. Unless I'm completely mistaken of course!

That's probably where they're heading

So have they basically had Sky News's old video wall? It all looks great except for the sofa nicked off Breakfast - red doesn't go with the set at all. A blue one would suit it much better.

The move to 401 is ridiculous and unnecessarily confusing - you could understand if it was to 106 or something but can't really see Sky Sports 1 viewers not being regular viewers of Sky Sports News anyway, so it's not going to boost the audience much.

Looks good. Clunky name. If you are going to rebrand and spend the money. Might want to try for something a bit cleaner sounding. Oh well. They finally they get out from behind the desk and use a more dynamic presentation. I like the clean white feeling design. I wonder if they are going to create a flagship program (ala SportsCenter) in addition to their normal rolling coverage. In any event it looks good. Well Done SSN...HQ. Rolling Eyes
