As expected, it's now widescreen for SD viewers.

Are the Sky Sports HD channels genuinely simulcasts or are there different promos etc?

Although I'm watching the simulcast on Sky Sports HD1 (Virgin customer you see), it looks great in HD, I managed to flip over to watch SSN and even then it looks pretty decent, I'm glad they're making use of the full 16:9, certainately long overdue.

Bit of an inconspicuous ending on Freeview, although fully expected given that "Through the Night" is pre-recorded, my recording crashed into Sky3+1 during a trail for The Middle:

Sky Sports News HD is the HD simulcast of Sky Sports News (and the original channel is called Sky Sports News). Exactly the same as Sky News HD is a simulcast of Sky News, and Sky 1 HD is a simulcast of Sky 1.

Sky Sports News HD is an exact simulcast of Sky Sports News. However, Sky News HD has a completely different on screen look from the SD version as it uses different graphics.

Are any SD viewers of SSN having problems reading all the text in the right hand side panel?

I am watching on standard definition at the moment and all of the text is readable. However the graphics filling the entire width of the screen makes the channel look very untidy.

I'm slightly disappointed that the actual presentaion style of the channel is still the same, I thought they would take the opportunity to try something different.

Is the blurry behind presenter ticker really necessary ?

I to am disappointed wit the new Sky Sports News, other than filling a full 16:9 frame there is no difference to it.

That dam music is still there, the blurred background is still there, they still just seem to mention football and to top it off they have added an unreadable ticker to the background.

There also seems to be far to many things happening on screen at once, can't remember if it was like this before and it just went unnoticed but in that advert box on the bottom right there seems to be three moving things alone - a sparkle effect around the edge, the small video playing and the animation between the HD and SD channel. There is only so much my eyes can take in one go and I think they are reaching their limit!

They filled the entire width of the screen before. No change there, they're just wider, so in fact we get more picture with less lost to the gfx.

SD viewer - Most of it is readable on my 4:3 CRT, a few are a bit blurry, especially the blue words under white ones in the transfers lists. Apart from that, no real change.

Breaking news appears on the screen three times, the main ticker, the blurred ticker (the most pointless thing ever to appear on television) and the widget thing on the bottom right of the sidebar.

Completely and gloriously missing the point.

I like the new look. Lots of small text scrolling, flipping and moving around the screen. Great. Love it.
I actually don't mind the blurd ticker in the background. It adds a bit of relief from the sky and dark blue and black backdrop. Would have prefered them to adopt a US ESPN studio though. There the anchors are sitting on a balcony, and you can see various HD monitor clusters on the walls and in a central point in the middle of the studio and production team working below. Looks very effective (when I've seen it used on Baseball and Basketball preview shows on ESPN Amercia).

Anyway, is this studio that SSN is now coming from the former Sky News studio?
