For the first time last night I noticed that SSHD was in existence. I knew it was coming, but when did it arrive? Does it already offer high definition programing, and what exactly will it offer in terms of sports programming? I presumed that when Sky Sports announced its switch to high-definition, that this quality service would be introduced across all SS channels?
Sky Sports HD will operate as a separate channel from Sky Sports 1 - Xtra, in that it will have it's own schedule.
The channel will simulcast live sports in HD from across Sky's Sports channels, so for example last nights football from Sky Sports 2 would have been shown and this weekends Super Sunday from Sky Sports 1 will be shown.
Sky already have a licence for Sky Sports HD2 for operation where more than two sports are showing live at the same time.
At least that was the initial idea, it may change.
At the moment they've only announced HD coverage of Premiership football and Guiness rugby, but promise more sports to be announced soon.
Looking at the schedule, they seem to simulcast whatever Sky Sports channel is showing the main live programme, with other programmes during the day being shown in SD.
