Sky Sound Problems

Sky1 has a sound fault with The Middle

"we apologise for this temporary fault" in big white letters at the bottom of the screen after nearly 10mins of it.

Just changed to a letter box format with the sound now corrected, would this be a back up or change of playout?

In the 19:30 juntion even the sound of the ident was effected, but the voice of the announcer was unaffected.

They still have problems now. Try turning AD on on Sky One (warning: you probably want to turn the volume down first).

EDIT: Also, Modern Family was in 14:9, I'm guessing that is not normal.

As I missed the 19:30 junction and no longer able to watch Sky1 at the moment, did you hear an apology from the CA? I am a little shocked at the apology caption I saw on screen.

Yes the CA did make an apology at 19:30 and again at 20:00. I have recorded the 20:00 junction on both the SD and HD channels. The soundtrack is affected in the SD ident, but not on the HD channel. I don't think there have been any problem's on the HD channel tonight.

No apology from the CA during the end credits Simpsons just now, they just said more simpsons up next on Sky1 HD, so Sky1 SD get no sound? New Sky HD sales pitch - enjoy your program even better in HD and with audio!on Sky1 HD.

Have they shown the apology caption again since around 19:20? What I saw was bold white text at the bottom. no background or outline or logo.

The caption has not been shown since The Middle ended, I would like to have got a HQ screenshot, Luckily I was recording The Middle on Sky+ at the time. I have the DVD recorder hooked up to the Sky+HD box at the moment not the Sky+ box which has the The Middle in the sky planner. I will upload a camera to tv screenshot.

I was recording The Middle but I have no facilities to upload. But I will have a look at it again before I remove it when I can find where the episode is next repeated along with Modern Family which I believe was recording as well.

I'm really surprised the CA is live. I thought all the sky family of channel's continuity was pre-recorded.

Are the CA's used on all Sky channels or do they have separate? I think I have heard a CA on Sky One & Living before they all relaunched?

Sky1 has had live continuity announcers for a few years now, Paul Daniels and Katie Morton have been voices for over 3 years now. Not sure of tonights announcers name, but she has been a regular announcer over the last 2 years. I think all other sky channels announcements are pre-recorded. Sky2 and Sky3 until March this year were live but since have been switched back to pre-recorded.
