Has anybody set a programme on Keep on their Sky+ and then suddenly it's gone? It's happened to me, but I want to know if it's a known problem before I start to accuse people in my home.

There have been a lot of problems with the latest Sky+ software. Do you have the see-through Sky logo at the top of your EPG? If you do, Sky are aware of the problems and are "working on them".

Rather than "accuse", you could simply ask your family.

Chris Moyles was complaining of this problem earlier in the week. It was clearly related to the software update as he said "the bits have changed colour"

Well if this is an act of Sky's EPG faults, what if I can't get my programmes back? Will Sky grab their magic wands or defend themselves from complaint emails with their overgrown satellite dishes?

AFAIK marking a programme as "keep" just means that it is the last thing to be deleted if you request a recording when there is insuffucient space on the disk.

From what I understand the sequence for automatic deletion is:

Arrow The programmes viewed (but not marked as "K") with the oldest first.
Arrow Programmes viewed (marked as "K") oldest first
Arrow Programmes not yet viewed (oldest first)

Although, I have to admit, you must set to record quite alot of films etc and then disappear on holiday for about a month to get to the stage where it would auto-delete programmes marked as "K" Shocked Shocked Confused

Whats EPG? Please excuse me, i'm not that up to date with sky.
And also, is there any chance I can update my Sky software manually or search for updates on sky, rather like windows update?

EPG is "Electronic Programme Guide", it's available on all digital platforms, not just Sky.

As far as updating your software goes - just leave it for Sky to do it automatically - unless yours is corrupt (in which case call Sky and get them to send someone out) ......otherwise read my post on page 2 of this thread:
