I think you are wrong to say that they are "returning/reverting" to numerals! Sky One only ever used a numeral in their logo once before (September 1996 - August 1997) when it co-existed with the original (short-lived) Sky Two.
The current Sky Two and Three have never used numerals in their logos.

Well, 96/97 had the best branding ever.

Oh yes especially the transition between the "what's on" bit and the ident seamless. (basically it's just they have put them together to make one ident isn't it)

Yes it was designed to have 10 or 15 seconds for a text overlay before the ident started properly. What a great idea.
Great music too. I'd love to see someone come up with something as good as that these days.
Hell, I would consider getting Sky back if they reintroduced that set of idents.

I agree, Gav. That was certainly a golden era of Sky idents. You certainly sat up and took notice when they came on screen accompanied by that authoritative voice as the logo formed up. Fond memories!

Am I in the minority here or are the launch of the SKY Network idents at the end of the eighties and start of the nighties the best, everyone seems to love the 96 tombstones.
I miss that era so badly, simpler TV time I think.
As for the new one's I wont judge till they are on air or the full package online.

That Sky1 ident is the best ident i've seen for years!
It may be (though I don't think so) Sky's best ident for years - but it's certainly not the current best ident across all channels
To me it looks more like the illegitimate child of Five's CSI bullet ident and BBC2's Heroes promos.

Sky's autumn brochure is now up http://www.skypressoffice.co.uk/common/uploads/brochures/Winter_Brochure_2008.pdf

Wow, I really like that logo. I don't know why but I get a feeling of nostalgia from it.

Hmm, after seeing that, i completely agree.

I didn't have Sky back then, but certainly the best since the 96/97 era (thanks to some heavy youtube research today). To me it's the only one (apart from BBC2's breakwater ident and Chanel4's Tokyo ident) that actually grabs me. Least its a better HD ident than BBC HD's new ident!
