To me, Sky One still means nothing more than "The Simpsons" and "Brainiac". So this increase in drama budgeting may make me look at the channel in a whole new way.
Sky One has been getting more and more of my viewing time over the past year, and this 20% budget increase can only make it better.
The thing I find interesting is that he's looking for a British drama to sit alongside the likes of Lost and Prison Break, and it's something I've seen him quoted as saying in the past. In this country we've never been able to come up with anything as good as the best American dramas so it'll be interesting to see what they can come up with.
I'm pleased that there will be a new logo. Not that I particularly dislike the current one, just that it'll finally stop people thinking it's still funny to write Sky Onc.
I quite like the current idents on the 3 Sky entertainment channels. They are the best they've had since the 'tombstone' era. It will be a shame to see them go. I bet we end up with some 'marketing-drivel-inspired' live action footage with a cheap logo slapped on the top.
It will be a shame to see them ditch the logo, its the strongest they have had since the Egg and 1998 looks.
The on-screen idents however have been awful since the 1998 first few looks, so it would be nice to have a change. Lets hope they rebrand in the same way the main 5 channels have, instead of always feeling like a small digital channel.

I think most CGI idents are very good and versitile. It's the sort of thing that got me interested in TV presentation in the first place.
Gold space-hoppers, giraffes, ladies mowing lawns or reflective windows just don't do it for me! I suspect the blurb accompanying the new idents will include the following words/phrases:
"dynamic, repositioning, demographic, behavioural targeting, viewer generated media, multi-level marketing, synergy, unique competitive advantage, mind awareness, engagement metrics and relationship building."
and many, many more....
I could probably put up a picture of my dog, slap on one of Beep's mock logos and sell it using that drivel!
Ah Sky One - that takes make back! (I'm with Virgin Media ).
I've not missed in one bit to be honest - except maybe for The Simpsons.
I'm with Sky but don't tend to watch Sky One these days, I watch more Virgin 1 since the Star Trek programmes moved there.
It doesn't stop me appreciating Sky's nice idents though! I noticed Virgin 1 have lost their "live action" idents recently too for something marginally better.

I've not actually seen an ident since they went widescreen, only the plain red and black menus.
As for sky one, their current idents are nice but they're a bit "nothing" at the same time, and quite obviously just a filler until something new is come up with (a bit like Channel 5 did in 2002, a quick animated ident until a new look was introduced). At least the old "looking up" idents had a bit of interest and variation in them, though admittedly, a little drab.
Out of interest, have the current Sky One idents been posted here in HD? Another VM customer here so I wouldn't know if they're the same on both channels.

The new Sky One idents are the same on the SD channel and Sky One HD. Instead, a box in the corner of the ident is used to show when the following programme is in HD (which is a lot of the time these days, the HD content has really gone up in the last year). They also put other boxes there to show when a programme has multistart, or is on the Sky Player or on Sky Anytime.
The only time I've seen an ident with the full Sky One HD logo since the new ones came in has been before programmes on Sky Anytime.
