Last week I set up Points Of View to tape on BBC Two this week, as I thought it wouldn't be picked up as I thought it couldn't cope with channel changes as Series Link only picks up on the same channel?

I noticed Jeremy Vine said they were back on BBC One next week, so I thought 'Better reset it while I remember!' but I've just checked the planner & it's popped up an entry for BBC One next week automatically.

How come it can do that, but not do an automatic change on live transmissions, eg the Wimbledon changes from Two to One?

Probably because Points of View was scheduled to change channels in advance, whereas you can't schedule the over-running of live events.

The Sky box can cope with a programme over running, but when a programme changes channels, that programme actually ends, and another programme starts on the other channel. They can be series linked, but if the programme starts before the other one finishes (as normal when changing channels at short notice), the Sky box won't record the second programme, as it conflicts with the recording of the first channel. You have to manually step in and tell it what you want it to do.

I don't understand why you are surprised by this behaviour. This is how series links work. You recorded last weeks episode on BBC One with a series link so the box automatically adds the next episode on the same channel which is next week. The fact that it was on BBC Two this week isn't relevant.

The series link will be from the BBC One Points of view you set up. Series link doesn't work when a show changes channels. I have Neighbours set up on series link, when Neighbours went off for 3 weeks over Christmas it put Neighbours back into the planner come its January return.

Just out of curiosity then - how would it work when there are new programmes of say... Coronation Street or Emmerdale - and there are classic repeats on channels such as ITV2? Would there be a filter to omit repeats or something?

Those would be classed as totally different shows/series as far as the Sky+ box is concerned. Just like the 1.45pm showing of Neighbours is not in the same series link as the 5.30 repeat. This always messed things up when the BBC used to just show Neighbours once for sport or suchlike.
