I'm not such a fan of the 1997 identities (although they are better than the current (just think of those great Sky Astons that accomplied them. The 95/96 Sky Idents are my all time favourite idents, especially the 95 Sports one its just sooooo good!

The nest SKY generic idents were the 1993-1995 ones, they should have been used longer! They had good music and were all in a certain colour, I wish I had more on video though!
The 95/96 Sky look was very good indeed! One of the best they have had in the way of genericism.
The 1997 set didn't impress me much, although Sky News was rather good from that era, and they still had individual programme identities then. Those were the days.
Because they are no longer fashionable. The three-dimensional graphical extravaganzas of the early 90's are considered out-dated now.
Whether you agree with that or not is a matter of personal taste. Personally I don't, but obviously a lot of people do. I don't like the way the idea behind branding today is essentially 'be inoffensive'. Bold statements are scorned.
