i've noticed over the last couple of days (i can't say i watch sky one all that often anymore) but the 'voice' of sky one Claire Sturgess who seems to have been the only ca for years has been replaced by a generic male announcer.

when did this happen? to me sky one feels ever-so slightly different now - i wonder if sky one is heading for another rebrand - those idents looked fairly shocking when they were introduced - i'm suprised they've kept them this long (but the, they did replace the 'orange' one which looked like they were made in powerpoint)

The bloke is the bloke who does the Guardian guide thing on XFM. He's very good at reading clever funny scripts, but I'm still to hear him shine introducing The Simpsons on Sky One.

I guess it's possible she's been on holiday, and just hasn't been availiable to record the announcements.

Interesting. Am I right in thinking Claire's been the sole announcer on Sky since 1998?

She's been at Sky One since 1998, but has only been the sole announcer since 2001.

Think I'm right in saying the new announcer is Shaun Keavney, who does an afternoon show on XFM London. He's good on that, good on the Guardian adverts, but sounds very recorded on Sky. Which he is, of course, but Claire always made it sound a bit more natural.

Don't know whether Claire has left, whether she's on holiday or whether they may be experimenting with different announcers. When they first launched the Christian O'Connell show they had the two of them dual announcing for a night. So they might be trying a few different things out.

Making it sound like a bit of an XFM love-in, really. (If you forget the fact that Christian left XFM at the end of last year...)

I think it was 1997, when the egg look was introduced, pre then in the gravestone era you'd only hear announcements between 6pm and 1am usually, the announements would be done by Martin Weedon and some other woman, then come the egg look, Clare Sturgess came in and the other two were rarely heard.

I caught the end of a Simpsons episode last night and couldn't help but notice the different announcer, though I'm certain it sounded like the guy who does the announcements on Sky Two. Am I also right in thinking Clare Sturgess also did the announcements on Sky Three?

Should be interesting. Are they going for full live for all hours, or just for prime time.

I don't understand why more channels don't have live continuity, especially BBC, ITV and Channel 4 channels, then again, I suppose they see it as why waste money when someone could just record them for a few weeks in one day.

Well Claire is still on pre-recorded Sky three, not sure how well in advanced its recorded for sky three, but I would imagine she's still with sky even though shes not on sky one at the moment.
