Meh. You don't need the evil Torreat.

Usenet is the way to go. Any ISP worth its salt will have a full binary newsgroup server, and you'll be able to get shows within about 5 hours of transmission, in near-perfect quality, downloaded in around 10 minutes assuming 4Mbps.

This evening I think I'm going to give the Showtime programme "The Tudors" a go. It's a co-pro with RTE, is about Henry VIII, and has been garnering decent reviews.

Doesn't seem to have been picked up by any UK net yet. Will report back.

do you have to pay for Newsgroups?

Not usually. Worst case scenario you can slip Astraweb a tenner for 90Gb. Doesn't seem bad value to me -- that's about 250 42-minute programmes.

It's actually only a few home-grown programmes on satellite that's keeping me from cancelling my Sky subscription at the moment -- that and the fact that Sky are subsidising my net connection Laughing

BBC2 is airing it from the Autumn.

I'd far rather see some of the many well-crafted, thoughtful drama series being made in the States (and elsewhere) on ITV in primetime, than the company continuing to spend vast sums on tacky rubbish as they have been doing over the last few years.

The problem is, even here, they don't seem to pick the right ones when they do decide to go down that road. "Six Degrees" was one of the biggest let-downs I've ever seen -- the concept had so much potential.

Six Degrees had all the hallmarks of being a hit being from JJ Abrams (creator of Alias & Lost), but was pulled. I don't expect it will turn up on ITV1 now.

ITV had some success with Supernatural for ITV2, although that's into it's second season now, so I expect Sky are circling.

The American broadcasters are so fickle, very few shows get a chance, look at Eamon Holmes quiz, The Rich List, one episode was screened and then promptly pulled, wonder if Ant & Dec will fair better.

I liked 3 lbs, very good but buried at 11pm on a Sunday night, tragic.

ITV had snapped up three new US series, planning on putting two of them in a peak time ITV1 slot:

Pushing Daisies, with Anna Friel

Pushing Daisies has been getting good reviews and was the one most of the networks were after apparently, there is a preview of the show here, looks quite quirky they might have a success this time around.

Yeah, I must admit it sounds interesting. Dead Like Me was underrated (although I didn't see the whole series) and this looks equally strange and different.

Hmm I just saw the promo, and it made me want to watch it. I think this might be a hit for ITV1.
