I'd agree about Sky being the most influential. Certainly most of the newspapers (to my knowledge) have Sky News on in the newsroom rather than N24(not that anyone pays any attention to it, though!).

The Daily Record jumps between N24, Sky and CNN. Think it depends who's in charge at the time - I've even seen GMTV on before!

I'm only basing my opinion on what I saw at TV Ark since I obviously can't watch Sky News. Anyway, I don't really like it. The video wall I guess is a good idea for displaying a major topic ('War on Terror') or for Breaking News -- but when all the screens show something else, I'd imagine it being VERY distracting. I think the colours they chose were horrible too. I just think the light blue looks really tacky and cheap. The desk isn't very nice either. Whatever…it doesn't really matter anyway. It is an improvement on the former look - but I'm disappointed.

If you want I've put some more pictures - plus video - up here...

Hopefully they will be incorporated into the TV Ark Satellite section when I can finally get the whole thing sorted out! And not risk putting it all back up and getting it all removed 3 days later!

Time to add my opinion.

Well I really like it, it's nice and slick as well as modern. I think that perhaps the desk itself is a bit featureless (maybe that blue is covering up something, who knows) but otherwise it's really one of the best news studios.

I agree about the video wall, it really does get a bit distracting with all those feeds on it.. also, I don't like the reflection against the glass that seperates the set and the newsroom... but I suppose you can see that on News 24 as well.

BTW, I don't agree with what people are saying about Sky News copying other people. They've always had the multiple feeds in some form, and Channel 4's videowall is used in a completely different way.

Is it me, or have they made the newsroom lighting brighter this morning? The people don't seem to be moving around in the shadows today, and I think it looks much better!

I think the set look's brill, anyone know what's to come next and is Bob Friend coming back now!

Well I have to say the set is great - bright and clean, perfect for 2001. This is probably close to how Sci-fi imagined newsrooms to be 'in the future'!

BUT, please lose the people! I would prefer the videowall to be in front of the newsroom staff - THEY are what I find distracting. I am constantly watching them to see if I can spot a presenter having a cup of tea before they come on Smile Saw Tim Marshall on the phone yesterday! Plus ypu can hear the constant chatter when someone is standing doing a piece at the wall.

I am bound to not hear a major news story because I will be looking in the background and thinking, 'Is that Bob Friend delivering that pizza?'

I think you should ALL calm down, think of your blood pressure. Remember it is only a set, and it is the content of the channel that is important, and sky news continues to lead the way.

I happen to think the new set is fantastic, I cannot belive how much bigger it looks, and it is nice to have a live image again. The news wall is very usefull, and is also nice with the seperate feeds.

I can understand now why it took so long to do it.

Yay - someone else who actually likes the separate feeds in the videowall! Smile

Unfortunately I haven't yet spotted Kay Burley having a sneaky fag in the background before she goes on air, or Frank Partridge munching on a mars bar, but I live in hope! On a similar note, I remember that, when Sky One had those 'newsbreak' thingys from the Sky News newsroom, you could often see the presenter for that standing in the background when you were watching Sky News.

Does anybody know if sky one will bring back those newsbreaks, they were really handy for getting the news quickly.
