I haven't seen it yet as I can't receive Sky News at home (sort it out NTL) but will endevour to look at it at work.

However, just looking at the grabs on TV Ark I must admit it does look quite stunning. It certainly has an American news feel to it. I just hope that Sky won't be converting to an american style of news delivery though.

I like the 'Breaking News' and mega sized chapter headings. I guess it's quite a good idea of being able to throw to someone standing at the video video wall for a bit of analysis. They just need to poach Peter Snow (the king of large video walls IMO) to complete the look - lol (it is a bit like how the beeb have covered general elections for the last decade.)
My only reservation, but cannot say for sure until I have seen it, is that seeing all those feeds on the video wall could be distracting.

But I will reserve full judgement until I have seen it all.

Yes, well I am very impressed with the studio. Its nice anc clean and the newsroom looks lovely. I wouldn't say that it looks grey and dull at all. I would say it has a slightly green/blue tint to it which I think looks really snazzy!

The newsroom now looks massive and the videowall looks nice in the background. The feeds are a bit distracting at first but I soon got used to seeing them but I would have to agree with c@t, the purple globe in the background is much more pleasing to the eye.

I just hope the new graphics and music lives up to be as good as the studio. I'm sure it will. (I HOPE it will!)

The static pictures they were using on the videowall this morning looked a lot better. I think I saw it used during Live at Five, too.
It does look rather similar to the big silver map the Beeb used in 1993, and it makes the place look a lot bigger.

Without wanting to be too critical of this RelaunchNow guy, I can't actually see anything he's said has happened - but then again that could just be down to poor description.

I'm a little bit annoyed because they seem to have stopped showing the view from the newsroom as much. For example, during Sunrise (that name had better stay) they went to the newsroom shot when they went to the ads - every 15 mins, just after the coming up info. It looked a lot more professional and a nice way to go into the ads. But they seem to have stopped doing this now.

I think we'll see a few more changes to angles as soon as the new music comes into play - forgive the pun. The feeds on the wall are distracting, there was even a (rather large) picture of a Claims Direct logo that appeared on one of them - surely that's a bit risky?

I was watching at about 6.30 and there were lots of ads on, including a massive Ford logo and and also a Claims Direct one.

They don't try and cover it up much do they? Wink

Yeah, I can't see that his description was very good and absolutely nothing he said has appeared. Also he seems to have disappeared now. Knew he was lying maybe?
Then again, it could just of been his poor description.

Big Phil - thanks a lot! It was me who posted the Simon McCoy pic a few weeks ago - and I couldn't believe how close I was Very Happy

As for RelaunchNow, hmmmm. 'Pine wood panels with square plasma screens in sections', 'the floor will be green for keying', 'the videowall won't have separate sources'. And when I said I'd heard that the desk would be black and banana-shaped and asked him to expand, his reply was 'the desk will be black and banana-shaped'. Right. Still, he was right about the reverse shot of the studio from the newsroom. But is the newswall really 'the biggest videowall in Europe'???!

Sorry guys, but I have to say that i LOVE the separate sources in the videowall - I think it looks much better than the static graphics. Mind you, I did notice that, on the screens showing Fox News, when the ad filler is on, there are loads of masive Fox News logos all over the videowall, which looks a bit weird in the Sky News studio! And one of the screens was definitely showing cartoons this morning!

Oh, and I agree with the eagle-eyed person who thought that the 'extension' was actually a big mirror - it definitely is! On one of the sports bulletins this afternoon, you could see the end of the videowall reflected in it.

Video wall - VERY distracting when showing multiple images. I don't want to see Laurence Lee drinking from a bottle of water. The screens used to be smaller & seemingly further away during the days of the old video wall & there was a blue tint on the window.

The view behind the sports/biz presenter is DULL. The problem is the blue wall - it needs some colour on it - a la CNN. Wood perhaps or the old plasma screens. The problem as ever with the SN newsroom is that it is mostly blue & dull, highlighted in the biz/sports shot.

The other strange shot is of the guest on the left of the studio, when a small section of wood is revealed, but most of the shot is filled with the door into the newsroom. MORE of the wood should be shown. And, when sport/biz presenter is shown the wood section of the studio should be visable.

The blue which fills the front of the new desk is odd & once again - dull. I feel that this is covering something up - the new logo - and is only temporary.

The logos above the desk are tacky & look cheap.

Notice how the newsroom desks directly behind the studio desk are the greeny/blue colour of the temporary studio's desk.

Excuse me you lot!!!!! Everything I said was true!

The pics that someone mocked up were wrong! They pictured McCoy sitting on a desk in the newsroom with the video wall to one side (this is wrong!)

When the camera shots go wider and over the coming days and weeks you will see more of the pine wood panels with plasmas in!!!!! (So calm down - you are wrong again!!!)

The desk does have a black top and is sort of banana shaped!!! (I said this - you guys wrong again!!!!!!)

The green floor for keying was droped at the last minute because it didn't work as well as they had hoped!!!!

As for the different sources in the wall I was un-aware this was happening!!! I didn't say it wasn't going to happen I said I didn't think it would!!!!!!

So I think you should all shut up those who doubted me!!!! And to Sirreal who reckons 'ReLaunch Now knew very little, sorry mate but it's true'  all I can say is where did you crawl from, this is the first time I've seen you on the forum!!! Everything I said has come true, if it hasn't it means that those ideas were droped by Sky News' managment!!!!

I have given you a wealth of information and I had more, now I suggest that you all read the posts over the last few months and remember what I told you!!

Woah calm down!!!! Who would have thought that the new Sky News set caused so much tension?

I think you misunderstood me c@t - I didn't say those stations were the first to do that. I meant that they had that type of design already and that it would've been better to come up with something distinctive for such a distinctive channel (its definately different to other news channels). Something that we haven't seen before and is not a variation. I'm sorry for voicing my opinion but I don't like it. It is allowed you know! If things don't get criticised they don't get changed.

Anyway on a totally different note: does anyone think SKy News will get 3D and over the top grpahics like Sky Sports have now? I hope so!

Yes, I have to agree about Relaunch Now's post.
We are all eternally grateful for the information you have posted here, mate, but it should be remembered that this is a forum, and as such any post here is open to criticism.
If you can't take that criticism, then maybe you shouldnt be posting in an open forum.

Sorry everybody, just my tuppenceworth!

Love the new look!

Hey RelaunchNow - no need to get quite so upset !  It looks pretty clear to me that Sky are holding back the full 'impact' of the new studio until the full relaunch (or at least I hope thats what they are doing !).

I think the new look is great. Very clean, very fresh, better clearer lighting. I think that new camera angles and the 'swooping' fly-through type shots which RLN referred to will be implemented later. Early yesterday morning the sports report was held in front of the glass wall with the UK map etched into it. This looked ****
e and SN knew it, because it was very quickly changed to the other side of the desk with a newsroom backdrop like the main camera angles on the anchors. I expect the left hand side glass panel backdrop to be altered - yesterday morning there were loads of power cables in view hanging from the wall and on the floor....

Overall it has a kinda restricted feel to it at the moment especially when they interview guests etc. Lets hope RLN is right when he says that there is more to the studio than we are privvy to at the moment as it has the potential to be very good indeed.

Have we seen the new soft set area yet? (Oh yes there will be one). I think we will find this is where the wood and plasma screens are.

Did anyone notice that on the pictures on TV Ark you can see cables hanging down in the reverse shot of the studio from the video wall!
