Hey, why not have Changing Studios... The BBC's Huw Edwards and Sian Williams could do up the Sky News studio with Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen and Sky's Kay Burley and Bob Friend could do up the BBC studio with Anna Ryder-Richardson!

OH YES!

Wouldn't that just be brilliant.

'Well Carol, we introduced this comfy seating area in a Baroque style to create an atmosphere of calm which we think is really reallt lucrative!'

Very Happy

Ha Ha! I think you're all taking the ----!

I didn't mean a Sky News garden (although ratings would quadruple over night) - just a simple water wall.

At least I know what I'm talking about, even if you don't Smile

I know what you mean!

I actually think it would look really effective. They are actually nice and calming but wouldn't be too over the top.

It would give Sky News a bit more of a relaxed atmosphere.

As a friend of mine in another forum kindly reminded me water features have been done before.
In the 60's though, and it was some sort of fish tank style thingy.

But I know what you mean DAS.
A couple of glass panes with water running down them, with different coloured uplighters.
Bear in mind it really matters to Sky what their newsroom is like.
They didn't put in windows so that they could be more productive, they made it out of neutral colours so that it wouldn't distract them and used light spots so it didn't blind them!
So actually something like that wouldn't surprise me at all!
I'm thinking along the lines of lots of wooden flooring, round shapes, airy feel to the whole thing, attractive lighting and circular desks.

And yes, it would be very original, and for a 24 hour news channel were most of what you see is things presented from a studio it needs to be fresh and different.
Considering the fact that Sky is now ONLY having news on the channel they are going to want to make the place where they broadcast that news from, attractive to viewers and good for the presenters to sit in, and more importantly, something we wont get bored of.

It could perhaps be something they could add later odd, to spruce things up and keep it looking fresh.
The most important thing they have to consider is making sure the studio doesn't date.

Thanks, Isonstine. At least somebody likes my idea! [EDIT: And chesh!]

The best picture I could find on the net was this, and even that is rubbish:

This is a portable version. Now imagine a massive wall with water running down it, and blue lights shining  upwards with maybe a bit  of chrome somewhere.

Good, eh? Razz:

Yes, I agree also - it would look really good and I love the sound of running water so I'm all for it!

Personally I think news channels are better coming from the newsroom.

It gives it that rolling news and 'always happening' feeling rather than just a studio.

It would be great something like that in the studio.

Also, if you think about it, if there bothering to replace that bank of monitors after all these years, they must be tarting up the newsroom to look nice.

Actually, is that view of the newsroom at the moment recorded. If they are doing work then they would have to have it recorded. Although I think a live view would be good, see the work in progress! Smile

I thought about that the other day Ison.
I mean, it must have been recorded because otherwise there would be a load of builders walking past!
A live view would be clever, then people who thought that Sky were staying in the temp. studio would be able to work out what was going on!
and yeah, they are obviously taking it seriously because if after 12 years they are getting rid of those monitors it must be quite dramatic.
I wonder what they will do with that area though, didn't someone say a video wall, but what exactly is a video wall going to be like?
Along the lines of the news 24 backdrop or a big plasma screen set up?
Anyone know?

I would imagine that a video wall would either be several TV's put together to view lots of outputs. Then again, thats basically what it is now!

I would think it would be a massive plasma or back projected screen ot two that is split up into lots of sections, each displaying something. It would be cool if it looked like that!
