In brief - July 28th is the latest date!
And in full...Marcus is a director at Sky News and posted on MHP the other day (hope you don't mind me quoting your reply Marcus - let me know asa@asanet.co.uk if you do and I'll remove the message!)
'However, I was pointed to a web site by Simon Wiles recently (lost
the URL, sorry) which purported to show the new opener
sting and logo and I can categorically say that *that*
is *not* what it will look like. That is fictitious.'
I take it that is Cheshire's website on the new logo then?
< What will the new logo and the new studio look
like?>>
I'm far too busy trying to replicate the *old* look in
a different studio at the moment! All I have heard so
far though is that the news-room monitor stack will be
replaced by a video wall and the studio will have a
raised, dais-type section somewhere - probably
replacing our current soft-end. Off-screen, much of
the equipment will change too: new sound desk; new
vision mixing desk etc. I'm going to get to play with
a Grass Valley Kalypso (which is what we're currently
using in studio 7)- a big difference to what we had
before...
<<Most importantly, when will it all happen, the
latest date we've all been told is the 'end of July'
Please tell us, We're all dying to know, well I'm
dying to know anyway.
>>
Last I heard, the move back to studio 2 (and relaunch)
was scheduled for July 28th, but that could well
change. I'll let you know as soon as I know for
definite.'
Cheers, Asa

Interesting - looks like we probably have a definitely date then. Will be interesting to see if more emerges and if an official statement is released closer to the time...
Do you think they will go into widescreen format now that analogue Sky will not be broadcasting Sky News but they will be wholly digital broadcasting?

This would sort of give us an idea as to what the new studio will look like then.
I guess they will expand the newsroom out and put the new desk etc where the old soft area was, raise that up and have the newsroom below it, so the desk etc is on a platform raised above the newsroom and the newsroom stretches around the old studio too?
I'll do a diagram of what I mean in a min.
So there will basically be a small area cut off and raised above the newsroom slightly and then you can look down behind the presenters see a bit of the old newsroom in the background and then the rest of the newly extended newsroom 'below' them, sounds confusing!
I was worried when it was the end of July, I leave the country on the 14th but i'll be back by the 28th, phew!!

[B]We'll be getting continuous jokes from the presenters, like:
'I've had enough, perhaps I'll jump down!'
'Good job I'm not scared of heights!'

If the new look is how Chesh has done it in his diagram then I would be very happy!
Are they actually going to build it in the newsroom? How far away is the old studio from the actual newsroom?
Being as though, its taking over a month to perfect it then I would imagine (and hope) that they are building it in the newsroom.

It wouldn't really make any sense if they didn't build it in the newsroom.
Think about it for a second, what would be the point of raising it up if you couldn't see the newsroom below it?
All you would see would be a black studio floor!
The old studio is directly in front of the newsroom.
So I guess they will make a circular area, have a desk like the election night one, have those metal surrounding things, like the election night desk raise that up on a platform and where the old desk was they will make that area into more of the newsroom, and just extend it all out and surround the small circular area with the newsroom.

'Raised' doesn't necessarilly mean 10 metres high, does it? I would imagine a gently raised platform like they have on the ITV News with a nice sofa and a coffee table.
Another thing which would be good is a waterfall. If you've seen You've Been Framed (very funny), kind of like the water running down two layers of glass, with blue uplighters. It would be completely original and modern.
