Sky News: how much of it is pre-recorded?

we have been over this before, but i have been watching it today, because there is nothing much on, and i need to get some work done, and it's good background telly, but i have noticed, just now during the paper review quite a few crackles in the picture that are reminiscent of what you might see when a clip is being played out from vt.

another thing, how/when do the presenters have a break of pop to the gents? is this why segments are recorded?

I'd imagine a little more than usual is pre-recorded this weekend, as it's a bank holiday (well, in England and Wales).

The sport's just come on now though, and I see what you mean about the tape jumps. Maybe time to clean the heads on the VTR. (How long's Jim White been doing stuff on Sky News, by the way?)

I'm pretty sure they must be running on fewer staff than usual at the moment - there's been some decidedly dodgy graphics and mixing after midnight last night and tonight.
The announcement of the Perrier awards winner was rather poor - the camera in the event was all over the place, the reporter wasn't too hot on his facts, and the graphic said "Voice of SKY CORRESPONDENT", and the red slug said "NEWS" in massive letters.

I guess the staff just want to enjoy their holiday, but they shouldn't really be letting standards slip in the meantime.

After midnight (well actually 11pm) the text editors leave and so they can no longer generate straps, this also includes breaking news astons. The only astons that can be produced are those in the still store (I think) and the ones already on the packages. They can also generate name straps if they are really desperate but I think it takes quite a while. One thing I did notice was the problems they were having with the live graphics, I have never seen this before.

i saw that bulletin. who is that blonde overnight newsreader who’s been on the last few days? what a hottie.

the presentation was dire, as you say, the astons were very random, and didn’t follow the conventional layout.

why does sky news have an obviously reduced team (and talent in the background) where there are more international viewers (doesn’t sky news australia join us over night too)

I imagine it's all down to money - lack of it, that is - the same reason that BBC World carries a joint service with News 24 overnight, when it is peak time for many of its viewers abroad.

Sky News Australia joins the overnight bulletin (at 3.00 or 4.00 in UK) for one hour or two - but very little people in Australia and NZ actually watch the channel...

When I was there I didn't notice much difference apart from the Sport - which was obviously recorded. All there was was a lack of astons - only that red slug...

Tyne Tees's Sarah Gatenby has been on overnights all weekend.

On Saturday night, she seemed really nervous, but she was more relaxed last night.
