At the risk of upsetting cheshirec, I have just visited the Sky News website and it's a bit of a mess. Not the best News website I've ever come across.

I fully agree, News online is a very good service, and better than Sky's website.
You see, I don't just go and slag things off, like you, I don't hate the BBC to the very core, they do some things well, and some things badly.
And just a note, if you are going to come and post in here slagging of Sky, for your normal misguided arguements, go and post in another thread, you have an abundance of BBC threads in this forum, far too many if you ask me, where you can go and worship the BBC, and slag off any other networks, so go and post in there instead.

To answer the question, I know Sky are relaunching the gallery, so a studio change would be likely as well.
Also, World News newsroom and studios have just been upgraded, although the studio is still being worked on.
And it's easter, a perfect time to relaunch, as news is thin on the ground, and not many people are watching.
And with regards to the website, that has been on the cards for a while. And, whilst the BBC News Online service is very good, if a little biased (And regardless of what you say the BBC is judged, not by me alone (although I have done extensive research into the area) but by independent tests, to be the most biased network in the UK).
the MSNBC website, which is NBC News (also, NBC is of course the national broadcaster for the U.S, it's news channel MSNBC, is also the worst performing news channel in the US, like the BBC's) is similar in dimensions and look to the Sky website, and it is the most popular news driven site in the world. The BBC's is not, and It isn't even in the top three.

it would seem a little odd to relaunch a web-site at great expense, that might as well be for a differnt channel, as it does not fit in with the current logos at all.

Just a note, NBC is not THE national broadcaster of the US. There is no television station funded by a fee or anything, they are all commercial (except PBS, which is paid through membership support, commercial sponsorship, and a some tax dollars). And whilst MSNBC is the lowest ratest rolling news service, it's news programming on NBC (the parent channel) is the highest rated in America.

I think that some time in the next few months all of Sky will have a new look, the news logo does clearly not fit in with the look of the site and will be changed soon. I expect all other Sky channels to get new idents and logos, probably around the swoosh theme. I heard somewhere that Sky Travel is using new idents, that look to be quite generic, has anybody got any screenshots, as they may be an insight into the new look

I'll get a capture of the SKY Travel ident and put it on the site as part of tonight's update.

SKY Digital viewers are also to get a 'Personal Planner' at the end of the month which (finally) includes the timer facility!!

Cheers,

ive just read on wotsat.com that sky news are planning a new look soon. But we all know what soon means, anything upto a year.

LOL, soon for Sky could mean three years!
I remember Nick Pollard saying they were having a new look website last year, but it never happened!
And, yes, sorry. I was using the term national broadcaster loosly.
What I meant is, it is the best comparision they have to the BBC (And yes I know PBS doesn't have ads. but it was only established in about 1968, hence not the oldest, like the Beeb).
What I meant was NBC was the first, Coast to Coast, with RedBlue Network.
Red for the East Coast, Blue for the West Coast.

And anyway, Wotsat.com said Fox News was coming (which has been in the pipeline for a while anyway) in March 'Soon' and it still isn't here.
However, with the advent of Eurobird, and EuroNews now available on Sky Digital! Fox should make an appearence soon.
EuroNews is better than I remember it anyway!
