I don't know if anyone else has seen www.skynews.com.au before today but i'm almost certain there was an icon at the top left of the screen. What does anyone else think?
I e-mailed the sky news australia team a week ago to ask them would there be a relaunch. They said they had no plans at the moment.
Oh, and BTW, I think that Sky News looks great now. The studio, the videowall are fab. The graphics are still too big, and I'm not sure about that huge logo on the front of the desk, but on the whole it looks so fresh and vibrant.
I look at News 24 now and it seems quite dull in comparison.
Oh you little defector, you! I thought you'd never crack.
I know, what a shocker ! Mind you I did write that whilst still very badly hungover after a rather good night on Saturday.

Why hasn't the sky.com/news website been updated??
Good point. Sky, book your ideas up! Fox News has launched on satellite analogue. Why? It's Sky News's ister channel, and so should never have launched on analogue! CNBC is also still on analogue, despite being a Sky Family pack channel.

So the new look Sky News is here...
Good Points:
The studio / newsroom / video-wall look great.
Opening titles – quality.
Like the left of screen banner when used fully (although if only the text was smaller)
The two shot (location / sky centre) with the revolving transparent globe is really nice.
Bad Points:
Lose the HUGE logo on the front of the desk – yes I know I'm watching Sky News, the plain blue desk had more impact.
On-screen captions: reduce everything down in size, you'll be able to fit more text in without condensing it.
Oh and the L I V E strap – no
Question:
Have the camera people on location been told about the change? If they composed their shots so the interviewee was right-of-screen as opposed to centre, it would fit nicely with the left tag.
I was off ill today and so got chance to see a full day of it. The 'News Alert' aston is just awful. They need a serious rethink about the size and design of the astons - the rest is fine and it's nice to see all four presenters at the desk, each having a little chat - in this case about interest rates. The actual news coverage - which is what matters - has been excellent. What is it about News 24? Is it on a 5 minute delay, meaning it can't break stories at the same time as Sky?! It's just very silly. The court case decision about that girl who'd been beaten by her parents and consequently killed was reported first on Sky, then they were first going to the court and then the first to talk to the police guy in charge of the case. News 24 are always a step behind, why?
Oh and I saw that event in the pictures. Notice Blair's little joke with Adam Boulton, Sky's political editor. IIRC that conference was followed up by a live interview and then a chat to one of Sky's defence analysts, who've been excellent so far. I can't remember exactly but I don't think News 24 did anything after the event, just went back to the regular coverage. It's coverage that really matters and as far as I'm concerned Sky is winning hands down.
And when Mr Brown was speaking I elected to watch it on BBC 2. News 24 were using those stupid 1/4 screen things, with bullet point down the side and Sky were using that giant NEWS ALERT aston.

Huh! Pathetic! They should take a leaf from sister channel Fox News Channel's book, and use a tickertape, and smaller astons - but Fox could do with a clock - at
7.40am
this morning, they said it was Monday - but isn't there a
seven
hour time difference? That would make it
Tuesday
, because it would be
12.40am
-
after
midnight!
