Sky News New Graphics On-Air

Well, Sky News has launched their new logo and on-air graphics, with completly new music and astons.  At least the astons ARE NOT white, and the music, well, seems quite catchy to me.  The graphics have been redone as well, still white but use parts from the new Sky news idents.  I have no TV Card, so I cant capture some shots.  And the blue part of the front of the desk is one massive Sky News logo!

I'm rather impressed actually. The ident is pretty good and the music works well. The desk looks... different with that massive logo/map on it. FINALLY they've stopped using those bloody awful video screens but it looks like the Sunrise brand has gone from the idents, although it's still called Sunrise on-screen, very odd.

Those little red things are far too big, although after the first hour they stopped leaving them on permanently during reports and took them off when the reporter caption came up. That little spinning 'i' on the aston is quite neat, they've also slowed that down, at first it was constantly spinning but now it appears to spin only when they change the text.

Sky News Active's relaunch was a little delayed! And a little dissapointing too. I was hoping for a full new look, more akin to the website than the old look Sky News.

The DOGs are a lot better than the old ones, although I'm not 100% convinced about that live DOG.

The red things on the bottom of the screen really have to go, either that or they're just made smaller because at the moment they're far too large.

Will be interesting to see if programmes such as Today, Live at Five and News at Ten get unique looks. Sunrise - or whatever it's called now - appeared to have a morning look to the idents, so perhaps they'll adapt them depending on the time of day. A bit like 1997-98.

Well overall I like it, shame there is no menu or countdown, it would of been nice to have something at least.

The graphics in general are fine but the graphics that say 'NEWS, and 'SPORT' have to scrapped or be made smaller at least.

Also, the name astons are FAR too big, and I wouldn't of swapped them round either. I prefer seeing the name first rather than a description of who they are.

If they make the astons a bit smaller and put them back to how they used to be (Name first) then I would be happy! The text is far too big, you can't fit anything else on!!!

Don't get wrong, the whole thing in general is great, but I would text on screen at the moment is just a little too big, if they go smaller then I would be happy!

Also, I've noticed they have changed the weather graphics slightly, the day and time now intergrate in the top left with the DOG and also the wind arrows have been rounded off in the style of the font. I'm sure they've made the sea and darker shade of blue as well, but that could just be me.

I'm pretty glad that the music is based loosely on the old one, sounds really good.

Now, when are we going to see some globes at different times of the day?

In general the graphics look alright, but as everyone else as said the text on some of the graphics are far too big.

Hmmm looks quite good, the text does seam a bit too big, but why use uppercase SKY, and not the normal 'sky' because that looks a lot better or have they got something against having the same logo for SKY generally and the channel logos. Roll on the other relaunches(I wish).

The uppercase SKY is apparently the new Sky logo.

Yeah, I really like it. I don't think the text is too big, it fits in well. The music and the top of the hour titles are, frankly, amazing! I'm glad they kept the 'In 50 million countries' or whatever they say as this is now even better than before!

The sidebars are very nice when they can be bothered using them, especially when they have the spinning globe in th background! And is it me, or do they keep putting the globe on the videowall? I reckon it'll be permanantly on there before long. Looks nice.

And I like the red graphic in the bottom right corner. I noticed, however, that the graphics had really rough edges during the news updates during 'Sunday with Adam Boulton'. Anyone know why this was?

Text astons *way* too big.

I mean, those bottom left red things - I first saw them during the Sport with a report on a man with a club in his hand hitting a small white ball into a hole in the ground. The caption? 'GOLF' Yeah, err thanks.

The logo will grow on me but I'm not keen on the 'L I V E'.

With the DOG, clock, LIVE and placename (4 different colours - and fonts!) as well as the OTT astons at the bottom, it looks a mess.

However, the ident is good - reminds me a bit of the pre-election one, along with the wizzy animation into headlines. The sound, not a patch on election one but still very good.

RLN said that their would be animated astons. Well they do look animated when, for example, they are doing a phone interview, and, as the blue part of the aston is transparent, you can see the globe on the graphic underneath spinning around, that is how the astons should look all the time.

Yep, it's not bad

I'd agree on the size of some of the graphics being a bit big, but at least they've completed the new look at last rather than this temorary stuff.

Well you never know if everyone e-mailed news@sky.com and complain about the size of the text/astons then they might give in an shrink them!

Ok all we need now is a capture! Let's hope we get one by ths evening!
