I think the point here *again* is that at the moment the music doesnt fit the titles..... The "signature" part of the Sky News theme tune has always coincided with the animation of the main Sky News logo at the end of the opening titles. At the moment the tune just plays away, the logo flies through and then it all kinda.......stops........!

In the previous two revisions we have had the "Live News.....24 Hours a Day..." build up culminating in the fanfare as the logo flies through. Even the Sky Egg music, and even the original 1989 launch theme had a recognisable fanfare as the main Sky News logo animated before cutting to the studio....

I still think that the new music is a weaker effort than previous themes, but if Sky can either re-jig the timing of the current graphics animation, or (hopefully) introduce a fresh set to complement the new music then it might work !

At the time the original theme was dropped (in 1995) I thought they should never have dropped it. That piece of music ("Good News" I think it was called?) always meant Sky News to me. Having said that I'm not sure it would fit today (it would sound dated, although they could re-arrange and rework it to make it more modern).

The just-dropped theme clearly incorporated the final set of notes from the election look theme, which is the best piece of music Sky have had since the original theme (or at least, the countdown got very dramatic once you got to 15-seconds to the hour or so). I never liked it (the just dropped one) though.

I must admit, the new music is growing on me. I remember when I first listened to the new BBC Breakfast news a few years ago and thought it could've been better, but that too grew on me. Could be more metier though Wink

Music is awful! Pianos and news don't go, well at least that tune doesn't! Surely they could of put the deerrr der der deerrrrrrrr bit back on when the logo flies in!! Also, bring back the clock that used be full screen a few years back!

The deerrr der der deerr deeeerrrrr bit may work at the end, though its if they can bring it back. Due to the case hanging over them, thus why they have now changed it. If they were to bring it back, I think the 2001 (may - end of sept 2001) tune that was used with the 1998 logo on the white would go with the new music better.

It's growing on me too, I have to say. I agree that it doesn't fit the animation of the opening titles quite as well as the old theme, but I definitely think it's a stronger piece of 'newsy' music. And I actually think that the new 'signature' part of the tune is more memorable than the old one - especially as it's repeated throughout the headline bed.

I'm starting to like the abrupt ending. I saw the top of the hour at 3 o clock and i liked the way they had the newswall on with the logo flying in just as the music stops. Looks very effective.

I don't think it works as well if they go to single anchor close-up though after the sequence - I think it works better if they do the wide/double headed shot when ending the opening sequence on the newswall. Doing a single anchor shot kind of defeats the point of leaving the logo on the newswall IMO.

Don't suppose any generous thing fancies capturing the new title sequence for a poor, poor thing stuck away from home without digital telly... no, thought not.

This opening sequence with newswall-logo affair sounds interesting, though.

The music sounds good (bed reminds me very much of MSNBC) but haven't seen it with the titles yet, so probably looks a right mess.

Can't think the titles will be staying for long, though.

Yeah, they're not thick at Sky News. They will know things aren't quite right. That's why they're doing things with the newswall, and a quick 'zoom out' shot going into the break here and there.

Well, I can't capture, but I can give you a decent enough description if that helps!

Basically, after the headlines, you get a short burst of the titles-on-heat from Sky News Today, which then cuts to the usual wide shot of the studio with the logo flying in over the UK (just as it does before the headlines) on the newswall. When the music and voice-over have finished, they then cut to the normal 2-presenter shot, with the logo still displayed on the newswall for a few moments, before it changes to either a story graphic or the feeds.

No substitute for seeing the real thing, I guess, but hope that's useful anyway!

It looked rubbish at 6pm... the wide shot wasn't wide enough, so half the Sky News logo was off screen.
