I went to get a drink, thought I would see what it was like, and then the old music. I thought either something was wrong, or tvforumers were playing a trick (as this is the only place ive seen it until now!). But then the short sting was the new short sting. So it was either pre recorded wrongly or someone was pressing the wrong buttons. Surely if it was pre recorded they wouldnt have pre recorded it with the old music knowing that the new music was going to be used, or would they?
Well, Sky News Australia WILL be updating their music. I've not seen it mentioned here yet, but the reason is according to one SNA insider...
Spinout at MediaSpy.org posted:
Sky News has had to change it's theme music because the copyright holder of the former theme had requested that BSkyB pay royalties to continue using the theme. Sky News Australia will also change theme music for the same reason.
I'll add my name to the "worse than the old music" list. Amusingly (for 5am) they played the old music for the top of the hour sting and headline bed... then the new music for the end sting!
Wished they left the music and titles as they were... and just updated their slides and astons.
What I don't understand is how Dobs Vye could have known about this similar sounding music, and then give his composition to Sky, and then expect the initial composer to notice. It just seems so stupid, which makes me think that it's not the case. So the question becomes, how can you breach copyright, if you haven't actually copied anyone?
Of course if it is the case, then I think Dobs Vye is going to find himself out of work, and could be sued by Sky for misleading them.
Either way, it's a shame. "It shouldn't happen to a news channel..."

No sky asked him to copy several notes from there previous music/logo
I presume to make the sky news brand similar or to make it sync
But sky did not own the full copyright for the previous music
