Really love the new music - sounds really nice...you can't beat a good bit of brass and piano to make a good news theme. Only a couple of things wrong though - it sounds like someone saved it in the wrong sound format and thus sounds a little bit "tinny" - not sure if its just me but doesn't sound incredibly good. Also, the Sky News Today arrangement is much better, but only because it has a bed after the main theme rather than ending abruptly.

Oh, and I'm not really sure about the graphics with the music - but probably only because we've had the previous music with the same graphics. Bruce also needs a bit of bass and echo added to his voice too, he sometimes is a bit too faint over the new bold theme.

Still, overall I like it - certainly not a horrible change. Certainly needs some new graphics at least to go with it - I'm thinking light flares and 3D effects, and perhaps scrolling text. (very US!)

I like it too!! Very very nice - but I want some new graphics!
I keep thinking purple for some reason (it seems to fit with the music!)

Could someone explain to me (ive asked once, but no one replied!), why on Sky News Today, Martin Stamford has a microphone on the side of his head (like pop stars have during dancing performances), and a computer tablet (what's this for with an autocue and computers around them?), [both circled white] whilst poor sheila janson has a usual studio radio mic clipped to her jacket and only has a pen in her hands! [circle yellow/gold].

Much appreciated.

Probably because he goes upto the newswall and talks about the news!

My first thought when I heard it at work this morning was - "We seem to not have the Sky News sound on, but another channel"

My second thought was "Oh, that *IS* Sky News sound"

Third thought was "I want some of the drugs they've been taking!"

........ several hours in, and I have to admit, it just does not sound right. In fact, I prefer that alternative that chiguy33 posted earlier..... if you synch the video with *THAT* audio, it looks a hell of a lot better (and sounds better too!)

I remember when Sky news changed last time, I loved it immediately. Not now. God no!

What have you done Sky News? Truly AWFUL! BAD BAD move.

Very OT, but why does Sky News use The Sun's very old logo for their paper reviews? The one they use hasn't been used by The Sun since the early 90's AFAIK.

You'd think they'd have access to the current logo!

Copyright can be used in various ways, and the website is an educational resource, and as such has some exceptions. Photocopying books and printed material is breaking copyright, but in education this can be overlooked...

Actually, in education, copyright law is different. You allowed to reproduce a certain number of pages from pretty much any document.

Could the same reasons be cited for any type of resource, rather than specific random types of resource, like you have implied?

For example, if a website full of captured idents exists for "educational" purposes, couldn't a website of library music exist for "education" purposes too?

Well tvmercia (oh sorry Lord Wellington/TtWC). The simple reason is that each publication (posting or upload) of library music, since it can be copied and redistributed requires a payment to the copyright holder (and hence the composer).

You cannot really use the excuse of "educational purposes" if it is not used in the context of a recorded broadcast.

Search on my previous postings if you want more detail (I can't be bothered to waste anymore time on you).

I see what you been, today has that nice little bit where sheila talked before handing over to martin at the wall. It was so loud and brash, and was faded out. I dont know why they dont have bruce's intro's over this after the titles as they used to. They should have the 2nd (Sky News Today) backing music just after the intro and fading out as they begin to read the story, or have a welcome, date & time, for example:

Short sting ( with Bruce's intro ) ends; backing music 2 starts to play lightly as we get a lengthy wide shot panning around the front of the desk, cut to a presenter

"Welcome to SKY NEWS, its 4:02 on Monday September the 22nd, good afternoon"

Music fades out as other presenter begins to read the first story.

Maybe it wouldnt work as well as the old theme did with this, but it would be better than today.

that opening sequence must be pre-recorded, to get the wide shot, cos the newswall is off at night
