You know, it actually reminds me of one of their old themes. Not the late 1990's "classic" look, but the one that I think came just before it.

People are complaining that it sounds like something off an American news channel. But "Americanised" themes are nothing new to Sky News. It's probably only since the "classic" look that they've sounded less Americanised, really.

The previous Set of music Sky used was perfect, was not so bombastic, but had a recognisable tune.

I agree that the previous theme was suberb and indeed different. But what I can't understand is why so many are harping over the fact that its changed. I think what SkyNews should have done was to take the old theme and rework it. I think that that opening doesnt scream..."LOOK SKY NEWS IS STARTING RIGHT NOW, SIT DOWN AND WATCH!!!1" as does many themes in the US.

The vote 2001 music has to be my favorite, with its graphic style. But the 2001 music and its replacement are nice aswell, just that the new music doesnt suit the look. Dont change the music, just change the graphics, now you have reason to!!!

After listening to it, I'm actually beginning to like it. The backing music is far superior to the former. The music is very dramatic to start with but when it kicks in is excellent. The fast movement of the graphics along with the dramatic style of the piece complement each other brilliantly.

A refresh of graphics would be nice, though the graphics that they have are better than bbc news 24's and itv news' so why change them?

I think this would be a perfect replace for the SKYNEWS THEME. Minus the sax after the intial open. Its kinda cheesy...but it retains elements of the old theme but its updated.

Really??

The one that they have just introduced is better than that. That sounds like its straight from the 80's/early 90's.

Why do SKY NEWS change their music?

BBC (since 1999) have kept the same tune but reworked it for different used (as the main news hadnt changed anything). And itv have been using their tune for years. Why cant sky just rework their old tune (or one of)?

Im not complaining as I like this new music. I was just wondering.

LOL - I was just getting used to that till that bloody sax/trumpet or whatever it was kicked in.

On another note now that someone in "authority" (AC) has used f**k does that mean that we can all use it withour fear of recrimination.
Bit like when that minister said something was bull**it.

What do people think of the piano synthy variation of the new music used on sky news active, I like the short bed after how it flows from it

Here is a recording of it I uploaded with the File Upload Service:

Could someone explain to me (ive asked once, but no one replied!), why on Sky News Today, Martin Stamford has a microphone on the side of his head (like pop stars have during dancing performances), and a computer tablet (what's this for with an autocue and computers around them?), [both circled white] whilst poor sheila janson has a usual studio radio mic clipped to her jacket and only has a pen in her hands! [circle yellow/gold].

Much appreciated.

I like the new music a lot - it's a bit dramatic, movie-ish and cheesy - but that *is* what Sky News itself is!

However, I've not seen it together with the old (existing) graphics - just heard it from this forum.

Can anyone post the video as well as the audio?

EDIT - just listened to it a bit more, and it sounds like the first Channel 4 music, and a bit like the old Film on Four (talking 80's now) music.

The Crimewatch bit is only at the end with the pianos when it says 'Sky News with....'
