It certainly has been done before.
It was done by TV-AM for a few reasons.
TV-AM lost its franchise and so wanted to cut costs.
Kay Burley came from TVAM.
TV-AM knew it had lost its contract so they decided, as a cost cutting measure, to award Sky the news franchise and this would also mean that TV-AM would still appear to keep some of its presenters, despite the fact that to TV-AM viewers they had been missing for about 2 years (they went to Sky in 1989 and TV-AM lost its contract in 1991)
It worked quite well for both of them, giving exposure to Sky - although ITN frequently ran reports on the launch of Sky News, and it cut TV-AM's costs down.
Incidentally the TV-AM eggs still exist, they are on a building somewhere in London.
TSW is now an outdoor clothing company and TVS is now Challenge TV.

I think I remeber reading somewhere that the TV-am building is now the London studios / headquareters of MTV Europe at Camden Lock. The Eggs on the roof still remain, although painted over.

Don't know about TSW, but TVS is not just Challenge TV.
Initially TVS provided News studio facilities at Maidstone for Meridian TV (who won the franchise instead of TVS). Meridian have since built their own studio for Maidstone I believe. The TVS production facilities at Maidstone were pretty extensive - and are now run as an independent studio facilities operation called 'Maidstone Studios'. Masterchef used to be made their - amongst other programmes.
Challenge TV, and it's predecessor The Family Channel, is broadcast from this centre as well. (Not sure if Maidstone Studios are involved, or if the site is split between owners.)
I also believe that MTV Europe bought TVams Camden Lock studios after TVam lost their franchise. However I think they may have moved at least some of their operation to another location in Camden as they expanded their operation. I am not sure they are still based at the TVam studios at all.

TVS did originally do extra things for Meridian but they were phased out and now only concentrate on Challenge.
TSW are now Uk Safety, an outdoor sports and safety supplier.
